EX URA BOSS KATESHUMBWA TO CONTEST FOR SHEEMA MUNICIPALITY HOT SEAT
By Christopher Agaba
In Sheema—
Few days after resigning as the commissioner for Taxes of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Dickson Kateshumbwa, has officially announced that he will contest for Member of Parliament for Sheema municipality.
Sheema municipality constituency was created on July 1,2018 and is currently represented by the minister for science, technology and innovation, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye.
www.mknewslinklink met Kateshumbwa in an exclusive interview on Thursday where he confirmed his intentions to represent Sheema municipality in parliament.
“I am standing because l want to represent the people of Sheema municipality in parliament. l have served in government for 15 years, served in international organization and now it is time to serve my people,” Kateshubwa told www.mknewslink.com
He is the candidate who is expected to put a lot of pressure on the incumbent Dr. Elioda.
Although the URA board of directors in their statement didn’t state the reasons why the commissioner had resigned, the president while addressing parliament during the 2020/2021 financial year budget address, indicated that the officials were moved in a bid to rid the tax body of corruption though he didn’t mention names.
Kateshumbwa however refutes allegations that he stole from tax body saying that during his tenure at URA, he made a lot of achievements including transforming and putting Uganda customs on the global stage.
He is set to face a stiff competition from minister Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, Lawyer David Kamukama and others in NRM primary as they wait to compete with FDC’s Virginia Plan Mugyenyi in general elections.
