MBARARA TRADERS CRESTFALLEN OVER DELAYED RECONSTRUCTION OF CENTRAL MARKET, TIRED OF INDEPENDENCE PARK

Ever since Mbarara central market traders were re allocated to the independence park to allow the construction of the new central market, they are said to have faced a lot of challenges ranging from poor furnished lockups, dust and linking roofs that affect their merchandise
This was revealed by the Mbarara central market publicity secretary Kibanda Donozio who also doubles as the councilor for Birere subcounty in Isingiro district today 18 July 2020 in a phone interview with www.mknewslink reporter
Kibanda who has a shop in the central market dealing in grocery said that they no longer receive customers as it used to be since they are strategically located in a hidden place
This reporter also reached the town clerk Mbarara city Theo Tibihika on phone and he noted that the contractor had applied for the extension of 3 months due to covid 19 related issues
Tibihika said that the contractor ROKO construction limited was given a definite time of one week by minister of local government Raphael Magyezi and he had to seek for the extension of those 3 months
Tibihika called upon vendors to stay calm as the construction of their market is in it’s final stages
The construction of Mbarara central market started in February 2018 was supposed to be completed and in February 2020 costing shs 21 billion under the world bank Uganda support to municipal infrastructure development program (USMID) but up to now the construction still ongoing.
