In Sheema—
Women in Bugongi town council, Sheema District are pleading to Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema’s state house anti-corruption taskforce, to investigate their female LC5 councilor whom they accuse of pocketing their Uganda women entrepreneurship program (UWEP) money.
Agatha Kyankaaga, the Bugongi town council women Chairperson and others, say that their LC5 councilor Oliver Ssemanda, should be thoroughly investigated by Lt.col Nakalema, on misappropriation of their UWEP money.
The women also allege that the councilor only favours her relatives whereby they are the only ones she wants to benefits from government projects which are supposed to help all the women in the Bugongi town council.
Kyankaaga said that the women were supposed to get money from UWEP several months ago but after seeing the delay, they contacted authorities who told them that they already wired the money to the district account which they couldn’t access.
She adds that only 5 of the 15 registered women groups shared the money worth shs 10m, and according to her all the 5 are ssemanda’s relatives.
However, Ssemanda refuted all the allegations saying that the groups which didn’t get money will soon get.
She accepted that it’s true she got a cow from operation wealth creation but that she went through the right procedures by applying for it.
Ssemanda thus urged fellow women to always be patient with government programmes because it cannot concentrate on only Bugongi town council.
