Yesterday news of Minister Magyezi’s withdrawal from Igara West parliamentary race spread like wild fire as it caught everyone by surprise.
Many wondered why the age limit king would withdraw from the race given the power he has from president Museveni and the ministry of Local Government.
Minister Magyezi today spoke to www.mknewslink.com at Tuzza hotel, bid farewell to a section of his supporters and appeared on two Radio stations; Crane FM and Hunter Fm to bid farewell to his supporters, then thank them giving mandate to serve them.
Minister Magyezi did not withdraw from the race willingly but because of the pressure from the Kasambya MP Gaffa Mbwatekamwa who switched from Kasambya to Igara West where he originates from.
Mbwatekamwa has so far donated ambulances to Kakanju health Centre 111, Bitooma health Centre III and he is shipping another one for Nyabubare.
After tabling the age limit bill in parliament calling for removal of age limit from 75 onwards, Magyezi’s colleague Abiliga was killed, and president Museveni decided to give him security which cut him off from voters for the last two years and this makes it difficult for him to compete well with this scientific election.
Magyezi is a very good legislator in parliament but a poor performer in the constituency. Igara west lacks services like piped water to most of the villages, electricity coverage is limited therefore when voters assessed him they opted to vote for other contestants.
According to analysts when a candidate is strong he attracts few challengers but for Magyezi it was opposite, he attracted 14 contestants which is a manifestation that he was weak and his score card was too much wanting.
Magyezi had too much unfulfilled promises from the entire constituency in churches, schools, mosques. A pressure group from his own village of Gongo called Omugaju started highlighting all the unfulfilled pledges and Magyezi felt it was hard to fulfill these pledges within one month of campaigns and election.
