Victoria University has today 17^th August 2020 sworn in its new University chancellor, Prof. John Opuda-Asibo.

Prof. John Opuda is a scholar of national and international repute and is the 3^rd  Chancellor at the University.

He has joined the University at a critical moment and brings to bear his expertise, wide-reach, experience and knowledge that will ensure that the University remains the top private institution in Uganda

As a graduate with a veterinary Medical Degree from Makerere University, he also holds a Masters Degree in Public Health and a PhD in Microbiology, Epidemiology and Public Health, both from the University of Minnesota, USA.

His Public Health training has provided him with multi-sectoral knowledge application in Epidemiology (observational and analytical), Administration, Economics, Education and Governance.

Professor John Opuda-Asibo has experience in Education, Science, Cooperation, institutional Collaboration and Coordination, Negotiation, Dialogue, Cultural Interaction, Publishing, Grants awarding, Scientific Research, Organizing and Chairing meetings, Harmonization of Curricula and Educational Systems the latter as a member of the Top Management Committee of the Ministry of Education in Government of Uganda.

The entire Victoria University community welcomes Prof. John Opuda-Asibo into the VU fraternity and wishes him the best in carrying out his noble duties as Chancellor of Victoria University.

In Bushenyi

The Managing Director of National Water and Sewerage Corporation Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha has revealed that he is not in COVID 19 quarantine with his wife as alleged by section of Bushenyi residents and Hassan Bassajabalaba-Karooro campaign team

Dr. Mugisha who was in Kampala said this last evening in a whatsapp conversation with www.mknewslink.com managing editor while in Bushenyi.

His wife Ms Annet Katusiime Mugisha is a woman MP parliamentary candidate for Bushenyi district for NRM primaries scheduled for 10^th Sept.2020.

The false allegation that was on whatsapp and face book was as result that the COVID 19 victim Justine Burisadi district speaker Bushenyi was with the two at their home the day she was confirmed positive to the disease.

MD Mugisha called upon supporters of his wife in Bushenyi district to remain calm and prepare to vote his wife in the NRM primaries on 10^th Sept.2020.  

Ms Annet Mugisha Katusiime is tussling it out with the powerful minister of general duties in the office of the Prime Minister Mary Karooro Okurut who has strong connections in state house and other government agencies.

Minister Karooro has been a minister and Woman MP since 2004 and she was elected into parliament as Woman MP for greater Bushenyi after the death of Benedict Bigirwa.

In Kakumiro

A suspected motorcycle thief in Katikara Sub county Kakumiro district has accused police K9 department in Albertine region of failure to train one of its officers on the proper steps to control a police dog after it bit his leg severely during an arrest in June this year.

Christopher Byamugisha, a resident of Kyedikyo village, Kyangota parish in Katikara sub county alleges that a police officer only identified as Maruura of K9 department at Albertine regional pushed the animal three times to attack him when he failed to identify suspects.

He narrates that on June 20^th this year, Francis Tushabe was attacked by unknown thieves who went away with his motorcycle, and police came with a police dog to help in the search of the suspects.

Byamugisha adds that when they reached his home, he was asked by the  Maruura the dog controller, Maruura  whether he was the owner of the home and  upon accepting, he heard him(Maruura) ordering the dog to attack him(Byamugisha).

He was arrested by crime preventers with his arms held behind while the police dog was biting him beyond unbearable pain.

Byamugisha is now accusing police K9 dog department and the officer of failing to take proper steps to restrain the animal.

He is seeking damages for physical and mental injuries, medical bills and loss of earnings.

Albertine regional police spokesperson ASP Julius Hakiza Allan has said they are going to investigate the case and once the officer is found guilty of mishandling the dog, he will be charged.

In Bushenyi

Letshego Holdings Ltd has contributed UGX 5M to the Bushenyi District Task Force headed by the RDC Jolly Tibemanya at a small event at the district headquarters.

The relief was handed over to the task force on 14^th August 2020 by Letshego Uganda under its continued elaborate assistance to communities and locations that are bearing the brunt of the effects of the Corona virus.

“As the world continues to grapple with the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Letshego stands with communities to help limit the spread of the virus and ease the related economic hardships faced by the communities in which we live and work. Our support towards Bushenyi Covid-19 Task Force is one that we hope shall enable district teams across 9 sub counties, 5 town councils and a municipality,” Aijukwe Giles, CEO Letshego retorted.  

Letshego’s donation was received by the Bushenyi CAO Mahab Malik (also a member of the District Task Force) alongside other district staff.

He applauded Letshego’s swift response to their pleas as well as the handsome contribution towards their strides.

“We are eternally grateful to Letshego for their consideration and timely intervention at this trying time amidst the pandemic.  The UGX 5m will be allocated towards mobility and sensitization drives within the district so as to safeguard the lives and increase awareness of the virus spread,” Mahab emphasized.
