Following last evening’s clashes between supporters of Annet Katusime Mugisha and the district NRM chairman , the two have today 26th August 2020 morning addressed parallel press conferences.
The first press conference was of Annet Mugisha Katusiime and she was represented by elders led by Mzee Can. Yorokam Bashaasha in Bushenyi town.
The second one was addressed by tycoon Hassan Bassajabalaba at his home in Ishaka.
Mzee Bashaasha’s team accused tycoon Hassan Bassajabalaba of bribing voters and dividing NRM supporters in the forth coming Bushenyi district woman MP parliamentary elections.
While responding to Bashaasha, Sulaiman Byekwaso and Eldard Karukiko who spoke on behalf of Annet Katusiime Mugisha, Bassajabalaba noted that he is not bribing voters but he is instead fulfilling pledges he made to villages in 2016 elections.
On the issue of dividing voters, he noted that he is not at all dividing voters.
“That is not true, am not dividing NRM voters but am just guiding them as their NRM district Chairman,” Hassan argued.
Bassajabalaba said that he is a peaceful man and there is no way he can promote violence in these elections as alleged by Annet Mugisha’s team.
Bassajabalaba also noted that Bashasha and the team cannot impeach him as they are threatening because none of them is part of the district executive.
He also said that he is the biggest land lord in Bushenyi therefore cannot steal the small piece of land on which Ishaka mosque sits as Sulaiman Byekwaso claims.
He added that he was not the one who suspended Byekwaso from the mosque but it was an order from the Mufti of Uganda Sheik Shaban Mubajje.
Three people in Ishaka were last evening injured in a scuffle; both supporters of Annet Mugisha and Mary Karooro Okurut. They are currently admitted different health facilities in Ishaka town.
Voting is on 4th Sept.2020 at every village in Bushenyi and Uganda at large.
