In Kabale

The Katuna Town council LCIII Chairperson Nelson Nshangabasheija alias Baaba Baba Taata Taata was last night declared the Kabale District Chairperson NRM flag bearer.

Nshangabasheija garnered 45,247 votes defeating his closest opponent, incumbent Kabale district Chairperson Patrick Besigye Keihwa who polled 21,803 votes. Keihwa is also the Western region vice Chairman Uganda Local Government Association (ULGA)

In the race also was the Kyankwanzi district deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Denis Nzeirwe Ndyomugyenyi who got 22,671 votes.

Nshangabasheija was declared the winner of the race at exactly 11:10 pm by the Kabale District NRM Registrar Mourice Mugenga Keitaba at Kabale district main tallying centre at Kabale Rukiiko hall in Kabale Municipality.

Speaking to his supporters at the tally centre, Nshangabasheija asked for unity, togetherness and support from all his opponents’ camps for the success of the NRM party in the next year’s general elections.

He also emphasised the need for calmness and harmony among all the voters in the district for the development of Kabale District.

In Mitooma

The Embattled Mitooma district chairperson Benon Karyaija known to many as Boneza has been declared the Mitooma District LC5 NRM flag bearer in Fridays’ election.

In the poll results announced by the district NRM Registrar Mr. Essau Nuwagira, Karyeija defeated his close opponent Alex Karitundu with 32241 votes.

Karyeija garnered 45,057 votes, Alex Karitundu came 2^nd with 12,816, Asiimwe Francis Katsyomezo polled 5,492 votes and Muhwezi Saverino trailed with 2,712 votes.

Yesterday’s winner Karyeija was censured by the Mitooma District councilors on allegations of corruption, abuse of powers and alterations of district plans, and among others.

Some individuals blamed the former Ruhinda County legislator Major General Kahinda Otafiire who is now the Constituency flag bearer to be behind the censure after he had lost his seat to Hon Captain Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda in Ruhinda Constituency Parliamentary race.

According to the report, a tribunal which was chaired by Justice David Matovu, Karyaija was implicated on three counts; hiring a driver without using the district service commission, Selling Murram procurement unit  and abusing councillors on radios but the case was later dismissed by high court after lacking substantial evidence.

However, the Mitooma district NRM Chairperson Wilberforce Byaboneka said there is still a big challenge as Karyeija will not go to office if he does not sort the court order that was issued to him by court of appeal later in 2018.

According to Byaboneka, he is suspicious that if Karyeija does not sort the matter out, he will again remain as the party flag bearer but won’t be the district chairperson.

However, Karyeija has on several occasions said that is propaganda being spread by his opponents arguing that he is now free to be in office if people give him their votes.

Mitooma district has been in the hands of Sylvester Tumukurate who was appointed the acting chairperson after the censure of Benon Karyeija.

In a similar development, Asiimwe John Juvenal won Deo Omuhatizi for Buhweju Lc5 NRM Flag bearer while Jaffari Basajjabalaba was declared the Bushenyi district LC5 flag bearer after overwhelmingly defeating his opponents who included Rev Lauben Mugarura among others.

In Sheema district, Jemimah Buhanda Tumwijukye won with 25,250 votes equating to 38.0%, Laban Muhabwe 20,212 votes 30.4% whereas the incumbent Kabigumira David got 11,509 votes, 16.6 % Mwesigye Elidard 9,967 votes 15.0%.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has confirmed charges against the former Deputy Governor Louis Kasekende, former Director of Commercial Banks Supervision Justine Bagyenda and the central bank’s Director for Financial Markets Development Coordination (FMDC) Benedict Sekabira.

In an August 4^th letter titled: Prosecution of Bank of Uganda officials to wit Louis Kasekende, Justine Bagyenda and Benedict Sekabira, addressed to a petitioner named Kakuru Sam, the DPP Jane Frances Abodo effectively confirmed that the trio are under investigation.

Similarly the IGG and the Police are duty bound to investigate the former BOu officials (Kasekende, Sekabira and Bagyenda) implicated in wrongful and illegal closure and sale of 7 defunct banks.

The problem is that they came in to investigate the matter nearly two years after the investigations by the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee on Commission State Authorities and State Enterprises (PAC-COSASE) ended its probe.

Kakuru Sam and Habasa Nelson told this website that they represent several and millions of enraged people who comprise of stakeholders and shareholders of the closed defunct 7 banks.

Speaking from Kampala, they said they will not be surprised if the enraged affected bank people vote the opposition but we want to appeal to the President to act on this to avert building unnecessary political opposition.

“We have been pushing this case, it is straight forward, we have documents and evidence that the 3 officials were involved in fishy transactions during the sale and closure of the banks.

“They should be prosecuted but the relevant government organs are not helping” Habasa said.

Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema the State House Anti Corruption Unit (SHACU) boss was also signaled about the delayed investigations.

She is the iron lady the President has used and deployed to fight corruption maybe she can prosecute them. Can she handle the matter, as some members of the public have been wondering why she has not come in to handle the Bou officials like she has done with other cases where IGG and Police have failed to deliver.

When contacted for comment about Kakuru‘s petition she (Col. Nakalema) said “the complainant for reference 2831/20 has already received feedback on this matter”

A forensic Parliamentary audit by the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase) discovered that the three-Kasekende, Bagyenda and Sekabira, profited from the botched closure of seven commercial banks.

In its report, the Committee recommended that the relevant arms of government like the Inspectorate of Government (IGG), Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) take interest in how the trio acquired astronomical wealth.

In Mbarara

UPDF officer in collaboration with other sister security agencies fired bullets in air yesterday 11th, Sept,2020 to disperse the supporters of Mayor Kakyebezi Robert who wanted to sneak into the tally center at Booma Mbarara city.

Over 50 UPDF officers were deployed at the tally centre on the orders of some officials who were overwhelmed by the huge number of Kakyebezi’s supporters that wanted to enter the tally center to witness the tallying exercise.

Only Journalists, agents of the candidates, electoral commission officials were allowed to enter the tally center.

According to the results released by the NRM party registrar Mbarara city Yoramu Kacumita Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi garnered 36116 votes followed by Herbert kamugisha with 9303 vote.
