The chairperson Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party in Ibanda has crossed to the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party.

Donald Murigye who is a district councilor for Kakasi ward in Bisheeshe division, Ibanda district yesterday publically told the press that he had decided to declared his intentions as he seeks reelection for Kakasi ward seat.

Addressing journalists in Ibanda town, Murigye said that he will remain in politics and will contest as a councilor for Kakasi on ANT party adding that he has already picked forms from electoral commission.

“I want to tell the voters that I will not be shaken, but I will come as candidate for Alliance for National Transformation. I am feeling comfortable,” Murigye says.

Sheema District Electoral commission Returning officer Frank Ahimbisibwe has warned those who intend to contest for different political positions for local Government against delaying for nominations

Ahimbisibwe noted that today is the second day adding that the turn up of aspirants in Sheema is very low

He however warned that the electoral commission would not extend the process beyond October thus interested individuals should utilize the set period of time.

The nomination of local Government council candidates which started yesterday, September 21, will end on October 1.

The electoral commission is nominating candidates to occupy seats which include District and sub-county Chairpersons, municipality mayors and councillors at all levels.

“The nominations will be scientific, all staff have been provided with gloves, facemasks and sanitizer,” Ahimbisibwe added.

In Hoima

The Joint Session Committee of Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim region has voted to impeach Sheikh Muhammed Irumba, the Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim Regional Kadhi over alleged gross misconduct and has nominated Sheikh Galib Twalib, the Tooro muslim district khadhi as a caretaker.

Sheikh Irumba was impeached on a string of accusations leveled against him by nine Muslim leaders in the region who signed a petition on 31^st August 2020.

The Joint Session Committee of Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim region-BTMR comprises Kadhis from districts in the region and their Executive committees.

The committee is charged with among other things disciplining errant workers under Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim region.

Top on the accusations against Sheikh Irumba was the allegation that he forged a minute of the Regional College of Sheikhs meeting in Fort portal that he used in the failed dismissal of  Bunyoro District Kadhi Sheikh, Ashraf Kugonza last year.

Sheikh Irumba was also accused of failing to plan, supervise and oversee the development of Muslim activities in Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim region using the principles of natural justice as he is obliged by guideline 3.0.6 of the Regional guide on his core responsibilities.

The regional Kadhi was also accused of adamantly ignoring his duty to oversee the smooth running of the Regional Council’s organs and committees in the region as required of him under duty 3.1.4 of the regional guide.  

He was also faulted for mischievously obtaining documentation to Kyarushesha Mosque land in Kikuube district, which he wanted to use to obtain a loan from Centenary bank Hoima branch on contravention of Sharia as clearly stated in the regional guide.  

Abdallah Majid Bagonza, the Chairperson Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim region confirmed the impeachment of Sheikh Irumba, saying it was a result of four members voting to have him impeached against two who voted to caution him and two who voted to suspend him for a while.

Bagonza said they have the mandate as provided in article 9 of Uganda Muslim supreme council constitution.

Sheikh Irumba has however dismissed the allegations leveled against him, saying they are baseless and aimed at tarnishing his image in the public.

He vowed never at any one point to hand over office to anybody, saying those who claim to have impeached him don’t have the mandate to do so.

Irumba was sworn in as the Bunyoro-Tooro Regional Kadhi on February 1, 2019, at Bwikya hill in Hoima City. 

Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim region comprises Hoima, Kiryandogo, Buliisa, Masindi, Kikuube, Kagadi, Kibaale, Kakumiro, Kyegegwa, Kasese, Kabarole, Kyenjojo districts among others.

In Kabale

Kabale district has registered 2618 teenager pregnancies in the last seven months.

According to Kabale District Health Officer Alfred Besigensi, the 2,618 teenager pregnancies are part of the 17,309 total pregnancies the district has registered from January to July this year.

This is contained in a report by the District Health Department following a survey in health facilities across the district conducted between January and July this year.

Besigensi said that Kabale district registered 384 teenage pregnancies in January, 311 cases in February, 369 in March, 319 in April, 423 cases in May, 442 in June and 370 cases in July.

Besigensi said that the cases captured are only those of the mothers that report in health facilities in Kabale district for antenatal care.

He attributed the continued cases of teenage pregnancy to laxity in the role of parenting that has favored moral decay among teenagers, the Covid 19 crisis that led to the closure of educational institutions, poor attitude towards family planning due to discouraging culture, alcoholism, defilement and severe poverty levels.

Besigensi said that authorities at the district have embarked on Sensitization of communities through radio talk shows on the negative outcomes of teenage pregnancies to both the mother and a child. He said the vice can accelerate maternal deaths, child mortality, increase school dropouts, child neglect among other outcomes.

He also encouraged parents to always monitor their children’s movements and spare ample time to share, discipline and shape the morality of their children as a way to prevent such vices.

In Bushenyi

NRM candidate in the recently concluded Bushenyi district chairmanship race Alfred Rupiha Bangirana has been reported dead.

Rupiha who died last night succumbed to high blood pressure.

Rupiha lost an election to Jaffari Bassajabalaba in the NRM primary elections for district chairmanship held on 11^th Sept. 2020.

He worked as a councilor for Kyeizooba Sub County during Yowasi Makaru’s regime in the 1990’s.

He also worked at Bishop Stuart University as an academic registrar for over 10 years.
