The NRM Candidate for Bushenyi District woman MP who won the NRM primaries with overwhelming support has got a challenger in the coming 2021 general elections.

Madina Lukwago Atuhaire was duly nominated today after lunch by the Bushenyi electoral commission registrar Godfrey Mbabazi in the Bushenyi council chambers (Nomination center for Bushenyi District)

In an interview after her nomination, Madina among many things pledged to stop Maternal mortality (death of women while giving birth).

She also noted that she will support schools, agriculture among others to uplift the well being of the people in the whole district.

She urged people to support her and work together for the better living of every one in Bushenyi.

In Sheema—

Dickson Kateshumbwa the Sheema municipality NRM flag bearer has today been nominated to participate in 2021 general elections.

Kateshumbwa defeated Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye in the recently concluded NRM primaries defeated Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye

He maintains that the people of Sheema Municipality were divided because of selfish and irresponsible leadership, undermining efforts to develop the area.

Kateshumbwa urged the constituents to do away with divisions that have taken root with an aim of bringing development irrespective of tribal, political, racial or religious differences.

He promised to run a peaceful and clean campaign aimed at promoting the NRM party ideology plus painting Sheema yellow all the way.

He asked his supporters not to respond to negative malicious attacks and propaganda but rather remain focused.

In Greater Bushenyi—

Greater Bushenyi NRM senior cadres have discarded NRM party and decided to contest in 2021 parliamentary general elections.

The senior cadres are; Prof. Tarsis Kabwegeyere, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye and Prof. Elijah Mushemeza Dickens.

Kabwegyere a former minister has been nominated to participate in the Igara west parliamentary elections while Dr. Elioda the current Sheema district NRM Chairman also minister of science technology and innovations wants to tussle it again with Dickson Kateshumbwa and FDC’s Virginia Plan Mugyenyi for Sheema municipality MP seat.

The third Elijah Mushemeza Dickens a secretary general for NRM Sheema district also former NRM electoral commission vice chairperson faces Ephraim Kamuntu the NRM flag bearer.

Kabwegyere said that he has not left the party revealing that he does not trust the NRM flag bearer Mbwatekamwa whose activities are against NRM.

“You can’t sit back when your house is on fire therefore I cannot see Mbwatekamwa destroying Igara West then I keep quiet,” Kabwegeyere was quoted.

Kabwegyere was surprisingly seconded by his former challenger Adam Kyakuwa who noted that flag bearer is not the right candidate to lead Igara West.

“Kabwegyere is better than Mbwatekamwa for Igara west seat” Kyakuwa noted.

In Sheema after nomination of Elioda and Mushemeza as senior party members, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu attacked the two for discarding the party though they are senior members and advised votes to discard them.

Kamuntu asked the voters to choose party flag bearers adding that the two left the party because of their selfish interests.

In Bushenyi—-

Annet Katusiime Mugisha the Bushenyi woman NRM flag bearer has today 15^th Oct.2020  been nominated for general elections.

Katusiime Mugisha was the first woman MP aspirant to be nominated at around 10:30am on Thursday.

She was nominated by district registrar Godfrey Mbabazi and seconded by Tycoon Joab Tumusiime and Ms Yudaya.

The registrar Mbabazi requested Ms Annet Katusiime and other candidates to bring their campaign programs for the sake of harmony as they conduct their campaigns.

The registrar added that he would call all Bushenyi district parliamentary candidates for a meeting to start off campaigns.

In an interview with www.mknewslink.com managing editor after nominations, Katusiime noted that she will continue to work hard and ensure that it remains a model district.

Annet Katusiime Mugisha will be contesting with Federica Nshemereirwe, Madinah Atuhaire among others.

In Bushenyi—

Igara East Parliamentary giants have today morning rushed to Bushenyi district headquarters for nominations.

The giants who included the new comer Dan Karukiiko Mugura, the incumbent Michael Mawanda Maranga and the former aspirant Andrew Martial were the first to be nominated.

Dan Karukiiko Mugura led the group, as Mawanda also waited in the vehicle and before his nomination ended, Martial also emerged.

Igara East is a constituency to watch since Martial Andrew is back in the race with his former chief campaigner Dan Mugura Karukiiko.

These three giants are the strongest for Igara East race though there are other contestants such as Andrew Amanya.

The nominations for Bushenyi district aspiring Members of Parliament has successfully kicked off today 15^th Oct.2020 morning.

Speaking at the official opening of the nominations, the district registrar Godfrey Mbabazi warned the aspiring Candidates against delaying adding that  the process will start at 9am and close at 5 pm evening for two days

Mbabazi urged the participants to observe Standard operation procedures and rules set by the commission to avoid inconvenience.

He also warned aspiring candidates against making procession adding that the electoral commission restricts them to only two vehicles, a candidate and two seconders.

In Sheema

RDC Sheema district Frank Kyerere has warned government poverty eradication projects beneficiaries against misusing things given to them.

He vowed that this time around, he is ready to deal with them adding that some of them may end up being arrested.

Kyerere said all these at Sheema district headquarters in Sheema municipality when the women council and women league representatives were receiving cows from the president of Uganda in partnership with Operation Wealth Creation OWC.

He said that it is true the cows belong to them (beneficiaries) adding that but as government, they will be supervising, and if any one sells it without informing them (government), he will have shot in his own foot.

He added that the veterinary doctor will be available at no cost however they will be paying for drugs themselves.

The Chief Administration Officer Sheema district Davis Beyeza said that they should not use these cows to pay dowry for their sons but they should utilize them to improve their diet and home incomes.

Sheema district woman MP Hon Jacklet Rwabukurukuru one of the women who received cows thanked the government of Uganda and Operation Wealth Creation team for the work done.

She encouraged the women to participate in agriculture and told them to utilise the wastes for manure as she gave them hoes to develop themselves.

In Kigezi

 The Kigezi region security operatives have warned aspiring Members of Parliament against making processions and rallies within town after their nominations.

Aspiring Members of Parliament are supposed to be nominated today 15^th and tomorrow 16^th for general elections within their respective districts, according to the electoral commission.

Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Matte says that candidates, agents and their supporters are asked to remain vigilant and stick to the Electoral Commission guidelines of only two vehicles moving for the registration exercise.

Matte adds that police will be deployed in ways and township areas to disperse all kinds of candidates who will make processions of any kind in order to minimize on gathering numbers of people as a preventive measure to guard against the spread of COVID 19 pandemic.

He noted that any person who will fail to adhere to the EC guidelines in line with the MOH and presidential directives on COVID 19 will do so at his own risk and as security, the law must take its course.

In Kisoro

Police in Kisoro district are holding four suspects for allegedly robbing properties worth millions from a business man’s home in Kisoro municipality.

The suspects are; Denis Katongore aged 27 a resident of Ruwafu Makindye division Kampala district, Derrick Sentamu aged 19 a resident of Kamonyi village, Kamonyi Ward, Northern division in Kisoro municipality, Patrick Katagenda aged 37, a resident of Gungu Masaja Busabala division in Wakiso District and Moses Ntezeyaremye aged 38yrs of Gishengere village, Nyagashenge Ward, northern division in Kisoro municipality.

 It is alleged that on 14/10/2020 at around 1030hrs, four robbers went to the home Jovan Sabiti Kamacence  40yrs a Business man and resident of Nyaruhengeri village, Busamba Ward, Southern division, Kisoro municipality district disguising as workers who had gone to work on his building.

According to the Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly matte, the said robbers attacked the victim’s children who were playing at home, threatened them with the knives and forced them to show them the keys for the father’s bed room. 

Mate told www.mknewslink.com that one of the children, Makanga Evening  aged 9 made  an alarm when he saw the robbers trying to remove money form the mothers bag but they had to tie the two children with cellotape.

Matte adds fortunately the neighbours who had heard the child’s alarm intervened and the intruders took off with unspecified amounts of money, a flat TV 42″, and a decoder, using motor vehicle registration number UBG 268U Toyota wish Black in color.

He also noted that the public in collaboration with police pursued and arrested them with some of the stolen money and other properties.

The scene has been visited, exhibit of the knife, TV and part of the money has been recovered while the vehicle of suspects has also taken to police and all four suspects are in police custody as inquiries continue.

The aggravated robbery case was registered at Kisoro police main station under file number CRB 598/2020.

In Kabarole

Six schools in Kabarole district will not reopen for candidate classes tomorrow Thursday after failing to meet the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures –SOPs issued by the Ministry of Education. 

The schools include St Julius Primary School, Smart Nursery and Primary School, Kansenene Primary School and St Felix Primary School in Kabarole district.  Others include Tooro Boarding Primary School and Fort Portal Primary School in Fort Portal City.   

Last month, the Ministry of Education and Sports issued several guidelines that all education institutions are supposed to observe before reopening for finalists and candidate classes on October 15.  

These include Foot-operated hand washing facilities, daily screening of learners and staff at the gate, social distancing of 2 meters between learners, each classroom having only 10 learners and restricting community access to schools among others.  

Patrick Rwakaikara, the Kabarole District Education Officer, Patrick Rwakaikara, the schools are in a bad state with overgrown bushes around the classrooms, lacked the hand washing facilities, did not have the temperature guns.
Rwakaikara explains that of the over 130 education institutions they inspected in the district, only four failed to meet the SOPs. He advises parents with children in these schools to find other nearby schools where they can enrol their children.    
The Kabarole Deputy Resident District Commissioner Festus Bandeeba warned schools that have not met the guidelines not to risk reopening, saying the consequences will be severe. 
In Fort Portal City, the Education Officer, Richard Alituha, says that they inspected 50 education institutions that included 27 private and government primary schools, 13 secondary schools and 10 tertiary institutions.
