The flag bearers under the Alliance for National Transformation-ANT in Mbarara city have expressed concern over the government’s move to pay registration fees for only finalists and candidates in Government schools neglecting those in Private sector.
Addressing a press conference at their offices in Lugazi cell Mbarara city the spokesperson for ANT campaign task force Mbarara Nestroy Sekamate Naswiru who is also the aspirant MP Mbarara city south on ANT ticket stressed that it is unappealing for government to consider only government schools.
He revealed that they are worried that close to 4300 schools which are privately owned are likely to close implying that 1.5 million pupils from primary schools, 390,000 students from secondary Schools and 10636 students at University in the whole Uganda will seek for a dead year due to COVID 19 implications.
He added that the ministry of education secured around 55.8 billion shillings in June to facilitate the COVID 19 emergency educational response which he believes would be enough to cater for registration of candidates in both private and government schools.
Naswiru pleaded to the government to even consider the private schools in providing registration fees by putting into account the 55.8 billion shillings grant they acquired to buy Televisions and Radios but were never delivered.
In Mbarara city alone over 14 schools were forced to close after failing to meet the required necessities needed by both the ministries of education and health.
