Japanese government grant of over 200million to Bushenyi Ishaka municipality that was used to build a theater at Bushenyi health centre IV has been lying idle for 5 years after its construction.
The grant was offered to municipality in 2014 and construction was finished in 2015 but still lies idle while poor women from Bunyarigi, Ruharo, Nyamiko and central cell who cannot deliver safely are suffering.
They pay between 400,000-500, 0000 shillings in private hospitals to deliver after selling off their lands and acquiring loans while the theater lies idle.
According to Apollo Lee Kakonge the CEO for Western Ankole Civil Society Forum (WASCOF), the theater was built poorly and it cannot be used.
Yesterday WASCOF delivered a petition to the district chairman Jaffari Bassajabalaba demanding the district to address challenges faced by Health sector in Bushenyi.
The petition cited out upgrading of health Centres, provision of staff quarters, operationalization of theater and absence of staff on duty especially during the weekends and night among others.
Chairman Jaffari Bassajabalaba assured the petitioners that he would address some of the challenges such as contacting the district service commission to include treatment of patients to Dr. Kasule who says he is an administrator thus cannot attend to patients.
