The body of late Peteronica Karindiriza mother of Rosemary Nyakikongoro the former woman MP and flag bearer for NRM has been laid to rest at her home in Mukinga Mushanga parish Sheema district.

The chief celebrant who also led the mass, Archbishop his grace Lambert Beinomugisha asked mourners to live a productive and purposeful life.

The Archbishop Lambert called upon Christians to respect God and work for eternity.

Nyakikongoro in a speech hailed all people who turned up in big numbers to send off her mother who loved God so much.

Nyakikongoro’s opponent who is the incumbent woman MP Jacklet Atuhaire Rwabukurukuru also attended the burial and contributed money for burial arrangements.

Other dignitaries who attended the burial were; Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni The Bishop of West Ankole diocese, Michael Mawanda Maranga the Igara East MP, Dan Mugura Karukiiko Igara East Independent MP candidate, Annet Katusiime Mugisha NRM woman flag bearer for Bushenyi district.

More dignitaries who attended were; Woman MP Oliver Katwesige Koyekyenga who contributed 1M shillings towards the burial.

Koyekyenga thanked the people of Buhweju for voting her overwhelmingly in NRM primaries and asked them to vote her again in the general elections so that she accomplishes her agenda.

In Rukungiri—-

Police in Rukungiri are hunting for unknown criminals who murdered an 84 year old woman shortly after receiving her Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment money.

The deceased has been identified as Joy Nyinarubuga a peasant of Kajwamushana cell Kicwamba parish, Ruhinda subcounty in Rukungiri district.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesperson Nyinarubuga was killed on 9/12/2020 at night shortly after receiving 100,000shs from Ruhinda Sub county headquarters.

Mutekanga Saudi aged 6 a grandchild to the deceased narrated he was sleeping when he heard his grandmother screaming that someone was killing her.

At around 21:00hrs the deceased’s daughter Rovence Orikiriza returned from Kajwamushana trading centre where she had gone to charge her mobile phone only to find her mother in a pool of blood in her kitchen.

Elly Maate,the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson has confirmed the news.

“Scene of crime was visited, postmortem done at the scene and two suspects one Orikiriza Rovence and her son Bamwesiga Martin have been arrested to assist in investigations. Inquiries are ongoing,” Maate Said.

Uganda Police have been blamed for the rising cases of Gender based violence in Tooro Sub-region.

Residents raised their concern during Tooro Kingdom supreme council meeting on Gender Based Violence organized by Baylor Uganda at Fort Breeze Hotel.

Participants also cited loopholes at the office of the resident state attorney for failing to sensitize the public about their duties and the steps taken when one is reporting cases.
While responding to the queries, Andrew Kasaija from the office of the state attorney admitted that there is weakness in handling such cases but
attributed it to some challenges.

 He cited a challenge of insufficient staff, people not following cases in court, corruption by police, people settling cases from home yet they had reported to court among others.

ASP Agnes Angom, the head of Family and Child Protection Unit at Fort police station revealed that cases of child neglect, men denying women a right to work, right to property and child marriage are  most common.
