UPDF OFFICER’S SON SUCCUMBS TO ASSAULT INJURES IN NTUNGAMO

Police are hunting for assailants who intercepted and assaulted Akisam Mweruka while on his way to Nyamunuka trading centre, Ntungamo district.
Mweruka, 24, succumbed to body injuries sustained from the attack on Saturday (February 13, 2021). Police say the incident occurred at 8: 00 pm.
A preliminary Police report indicates that; Mweruka’s case was reported to law enforcement authorities by his nephew, Saidi Mweruka.
Police have revealed that the deceased is a son to a high-ranking Uganda People’s Defense Forces officer (names withheld).
According to the scene of crime officer’s report; Mweruka’s body was found with multiple injuries sustained from a beating.
Findings by homicide detectives indicate that; Mweruka was assaulted by people who intercepted him while on his way to a trading centre.
“He (Mweruka) managed to escape from the thugs, went back and slept in his room in the boy’s quarters in Kakiika ward. He never woke-up,” said the detective.
Without divulging further details, authorities from Rwashamaire Police station said they had good clues that will lead to arrest of the suspects.
, The Internal Affairs Minister Gen. Jeje Odongo said they had noted with concern about an emerging crime of ‘knife thieves’ – who are the latest gang of thugs that -waylay business operators especially retail shop keepers.
They reportedly target a few minutes to curfew time (9:00 pm) and early morning before they are robbed off valuables.
At least six incidents have been reported at Police posts in Namugongo in Wakiso and Sonde in Mukono district.
The director of Police operations Edward Ochom said: “there will be increased deployment comprising of both uniformed and non-uniformed operatives to thwart the growing vice in the area.”
In the past two years, security agencies led by the police busted and defeated 28 organised criminal syndicates.
These gangs committed several violent crimes of murders, aggravated robbery, and other serious offences.
