In Ntungamo—-

Three government officials have been charged before the Anti-corruption court Kololo with embezzlement of ugx93 million and granted bail though they denied the charges.

Court presided over by grade one magistrate Moses Nabende yesterday heard that the three embezzled the money meant to pay salaries and wages for the district staff between June and December 2019 when they kept it on their personal accounts during Nakityo’s time as CAO Ntungamo.

 The three are; Nakityo Joanita who is the current chief administrative officer-CAO of Buliisa District Local Government, Byaruhanga Andrew the Chief Finance Officer Ntungamo district and Ashaba Julius the information technology officer of Ntungamo district.

 Prosecution led by Inspector General of Government-IGG’s Thomas Okoth states that they had access to the money by virtue of their respective offices; and investigations in this case are complete.

Court ordered that ugx 7 million cash bail be paid by Nakityo who pocketed ugx62 m out of the 93, and 4.5 m bail by Byaruhanga and Ashaba who pocketed 16 m and 14 m respectively.

The trio were arrested from Ntungamo last Thursday in an operation led by Regional Inspectorate Officer Mbarara Oketch Fredrick.

Magistrate Nabende has ordered the accused persons to report back to court on 30th March 2021 for their trial to start.

The acting Kabale District Education Officer has called off the school PTA meetings as sub candidate classes prepare to report back to schools amidst COVID 19.

On 4^th February 2021, President Museveni announced the re-opening dates for semi-candidates, universities and tertiary institutions during his address on covid-19 pandemic and school reopening.

According to the President, learners in Primary Six, S3 and S5 will resume classes on March 1, 2021, and will study in a staggered system where different groups of learners will be reporting to school on different days as decided by the ministry of Education or school authorities.

Tumwijukye Moses Bwesigye, the acting DEO, Kabale while speaking to our reporter urged school proprietors to follow the SOPs and wait a bit to have PTA meetings since COVID 19 is still in existence .

 He further appealed to school proprietors to ensure that schools follow ministry of health guidelines about COVID19 especially regular temperature measuring and daily records at the entrances of the school.

He also called upon parents to first visit schools before sending their children back to school for the betterment of their children’s safety from COVID 19.

Speaking to our reporter Bruce Ariho, head teacher Kabale Trinity College and Abraham Akampurira, Head Teacher Kigezi High School said that since the school calendar is out, they are prepared to receive learners revealing that there will be no any fees increment by the schools.

Court sitting in Kagango Sheema yesterday granted bail to Prof Elijah Mushemeza the Sheema south MP Elect on charges of assault and trespass on one Nice a business lady in Kitagata sheema

Prosecutions mentioned that Elijah Mushemeza and his driver attacked the complainant above and caused harm on her while she survived injuries on her body.

Shortly from the dock Mushemeza was also charged of a fresh criminal offence of assaulting another lady but fortunately the lady pleaded to sort issues outside court.

Mushemeza’s lawyer Kamukama David applied for bail after telling court that the accused is a victim of an identified disease and presented a medical document signed by Dr. Bonny from Kitagata hospital.

Prosecution highlighted rejects of the bail tabling complaints from the complainant that the accused has been threatening the complainant and witnesses and called for strong conditions surrounding the granted bail.

However her worship granted a 10 million non-cash bail on the accused and each surety after pleadings from lawyer Kamukama that the accused is being strained by election and COVID financial hiccups.
