In Mbarara—

All is set for tomorrow when mknewslink.com a leading western Uganda on line will open its Mbarara city branch.

The office will be located at Balya Plaza 3^rd floor room 9, according to Wilber Muhwezi Kasibante the managing director.

Kasibante added that he will be celebrating 20 years in journalism because he was deployed to Rukungiri by daily monitor on 3^rd March 2001.

He also said that the guests will be hosted for a luncheon at Bam classic hotel formerly classic hotel in Mbarara city centre.

Mknewslink.com started in 20^th Sept. 2013 and has been giving news for free to western Ugandans online which means that it specializes in western Ugandan news; Kigezi , Ankole , Rwenzori and Bunyoro.

Kasibante noted that mknewslink.com is the first online newspaper outside Kampala and it is the leading newspaper online in the whole of Uganda’s Upcountry.

The managing director attributes the website’s achievement to his mentor Deo Arinaitwe Rugyendo the then bureau chief for western Uganda who gave him his first job in Rukungiri as a reporter for KFM and daily monitor which turned around his life.

According to Kasibante, mknewslink.com has a maximum of 5000 readers a day and one million in a year.

It has a reasonable numbers of adverts compared to other websites that donot have print version like new vision and monitor. It beats other news websites in business sourcing and retaining clients.

Kasibante revealed that mknewslink.com is the only website that will have more than one office after the Mbarara city office is opened.

In Masindi–

Leaders in Pakanyi sub county Buruli county in Masindi district are worried over the increased cases of child labor in sugar cane activities.

The Pakanyi sub county Community Development Officer Naboth Kanyoro has attributed this to lockdown which has left many school going children idle. 

Kanyaro has condemned the act of sugar cane farmers/contractors involving children in cane activities noting that these children are supposed to do domestic work but not cane activities. 

He explained that during the activities, children learn bad morals from old people, yet they need to be trained in upright way.

He has thus vowed to arrest all the parents who are neglecting their children by allowing them to take part in cane activities.

 Samuel Atuhairwe the sub county chief noted the factory may not be aware of child labor in cane activities because most of the children are hired by either farmers or contractors.

 When approached the Communications Manager Kinyara Sugar Factory Mr. Richard Wanok, told www.mknewslink.com that Kinyara is a law binding organization, and all operations are done under the law of Uganda.

“We are strongly against the use of child labor and all our contractors are prohibited from using child labor, and it’s also included in the agreement with them,” he added.

In Ntungamo—

Authorities in Ntungamo district have warned the public against relaxing as far as COVID 19 SOPs are concerned.

The District Health Officer Dr. Richard Bakamuturaki expressed concern on the continued set back by the masses in as far as COVID 19 SOPs are concerned.

Bakamuturaki warned that the public should pull up their stocks in fighting the disease since the new COVID 19 strain which was first registered in South Africa has so far reached Tanzania.

He emphasized that people should continue unceasingly to wash hands, Wear facial masks, Maintain Social distance.

He however revealed that as the district health team, they have teamed up with the security to arrest and close all schools that will fail to put in place the required Standard Operating procedures as schools reopen for sub candidates 

Bakamuturaki is now appealing to the general public to continue their adherence against COVID 19.

In Bushenyi—

Anti-corruption court has today 2^nd March 2021convicted and sentenced the interdicted Bushenyi Ishaka municipal treasurer Jackson Muhwezi Beyendeza over embezzlement.

Muhwezi was charged with embezzlement (theft) of 104.7 million shillings he illegally withdrew from the municipal accounts.  

The anti-corruption court has thus ordered him to pay a fine of 5M and refund the 104.7 M he had stolen.

Apollo Lee Kakonge the CEO Western Ankole Civil Society Forum said that this is a great achievement for the citizens of      Bushenyi in their anti-corruption struggle which has lasted more than a year.

“It is no longer business unusual,” the excited activist posted on his face book page.   

Jackson Muhwezi Beyendeza was in March last year interdicted on charges of embezzlement alongside other two staff on the orders of the minister of local government Raphael Magyezi.

The three who included among others the Procurement officer Roberto Nuwagira and municipal engineer Deus Nuwagaba rushed to court seeking for the nullification of their interdiction but their case was dismissed with costs.

In Kabale—-

Police in Kabale district are investigating circumstances under which a 36 year old Boda Boda cyclist hanged himself in his rented room.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed that Twinembabazi John Bosco a resident of Bugongi Road cell in Bugongo Ward in Northern Division of Kabale Municipality was on Sunday evening discovered hanging on a bedsheet in his rented room.

Maate explained that Twinembabazi was on Sunday morning reported at Police as a missing person by one of his friends Sam Safari after he was not seen at his Highland Stage for several days.

However, the Police advised that his landlord and LC 1 Chairman allow the rented room which was locked from inside be broken and his lifeless body was discovered hanging above his bed with a bucket he used to climb over.

Maate said that the postmortem report was carried out after which a suicide case was registered under reference number SD 24/28/02/2021 and the body was handed over to the relatives for burial.

Maate said that they will continue to establish the exact circumstances that led Twinembabazi to commit suicide.
