In Rubanda—
Peace Regis Mutuzo the designate State Minister of Gender Labor and Social Development (Gender and Culture) has intervened in the gruesome murder of a woman and her three children by her husband in Rubanda district last week.
The suspect Armstrong Ahimbisibwe, 45, a resident of Habutobore village in Muko Sub County reportedly locked the four in the house and set it ablaze.
He reportedly hammered the doors of the neighboring house to prevent them from coming to rescue the victims.
Armstrong was finally arrested last weekend, having been on the run for a few days.
He had reportedly had a fight with his wife Rovina Muheki before he murdered her and their children Edwin Tumworobere, Resty Akampumuriza and Achila Ekinamushabire
Minister Mutuzo on Tuesday rushed to the district and in the company of the District Woman MP Prossy Akampurira Begumisa, she visited Rubanda Police station where the suspect is being detained.
Armstrong while being interrogated by the minister denied murdering his family, saying he never took part in the arson.
He said he suspected that the house was burnt by someone they owed money, but provided no names. He added that he ran away fearing lynching by residents who suspected him.
However, a neighbor Gerald Tumuramye told Minister Mutuuzo at the crime scene that Armstrong during that night was seen with machete, shouting that he would only settle down after killing all the family members.
Addressing residents at the crime scene yesterday 16 June 2021, Minister Mutuuzo ordered for the arrest of the mother of Armstrong, his two sisters and another couple that is believed to have influenced Armstrong to murder the family.
She described the suspect as a devil in the community saying that she will follow the case up to the ruling and cautioned police against favoring the suspect.
This prompted the Acting Rubanda District Police Commander Bonny Echonga to arrest eight people, namely Christopher Magezi and his wife Vangilista Nyanduuru, the suspect’s Sister Purisiira Buziheire, Anita Magezi, Leonalidah Tusiimomwe, Lestatuha Turinobusingye, Agatha Byarugaba and Vangilistah Tibenderana.
Mutuzo said she decided to come herself to follow up the case.
“This woman and her children need to get justice; I want police to investigate this case to its conclusion. We demand justice for Lovinah Muheki and her children who were brutally burnt by her husband,” she said.
“I usually advise women that if things fail to work out, leave the marriage instead of waiting to be killed like Muheki”Minister narrated
