In Bushenyi–

Greater Bushenyi women leaders have been warned against disrespecting their husbands no matter the situation at home.

The warning was sounded by Eliot Tumwijukye Olizanya a worker at Uganda women’s network during a sub county women leaders one day sub workshop organized at  Bushenyi multipurpose hall today August 16, 2021 by the non-governmental organization.

Olizanya explained that women leaders should be exemplary; not to neglect their husbands who are victims of alcoholism and other anti-society behaviors.

She strongly asked women councilors to implement government programs, monitor them and ensure proper delivery of government services in their communities.

Shifrah Robbinah Tumwebaze, assistant chief administrative officer Bushenyi district called upon the participants to learn how to save their money which will help them sweeten their future and end poverty in their families and communities at large.

She cautioned the participants about embezzling government funds, creating conflicts in their societies but instead fight for their people who put them into leadership.

The meeting was attended by all greater Bushenyi newly elected LCIII women councilors who included Nuwahereza Nice councilor Kakanju sub-county, Kansiime Lillian Nyabubare sub-county, Ankunda Cristable youth councilor Kyamuhunga town council, among others.

In Zambia

Business tycoon and opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has been declared winner of Zambia’s hotly contested presidential election, defeating incumbent Edgar Lungu.

With 155 of 156 constituencies reporting, official results on Monday showed Hichilema had secured 2,810,757 votes against Lungu’s 1,814,201.

“I therefore declare the said Hakainde Hichilema to be president-elect of the Republic of Zambia,” electoral commission chairman Justice Esau Chulu said in a televised address.

The significant win sparked celebrations on the streets after an election marred by sporadic violence.

Hichilema, a former chief executive officer at an accounting firm before he entered politics, faces a daunting task turning around the economic fortunes of one of the world’s poorest countries.

In Masindi—

Justice Musa Sekaana the head of Civil Division of High Court has set dates for hearing the election petitions filed at Masindi High Court.

Briefing the petitioners this afternoon at the Masindi High Court, Justice Musa Sekaana asked them to prepare for the hearing, and desist from gathering supporters outside or around the court premises to contain the spread of the corona virus.

More than seven election petitions were filed at the Masindi High Court, and hearing will kick off tomorrow. The first petition to be heard will be of Bintu Jalia Lukumu Vs Akugizibwe Ronald Aled, then Electoral Commission Vs Banage Fredrick and Kabindi Steven.

Bintu Jalia Lukumu who contested for Member of Parliament for Buruli Constituency in the previous elections lost to Akugizibwe Ronald Aled, and she was the second runner.

Through her lawyers of Victoria Advocates and Legal Consultants, Bintu Jalia Lukumu filed a petition at Masindi High Court challenging the victory of Akugizibwe Ronald Aled. The petition stated that Akugizibwe didn’t resign from civil service before joining politics, and was still getting salary.

According to the petition, Jalia wants to be declared the member of parliament for Buruli constituency since she was the second runner, however, the other two contesters including Kabindi Steven of NRM who was the third runner and Fredrick Banage who emerged last conjoined the petition, and they want a by-election to be conducted since they also participated.

The case will be heard on 17th- 18 August 2021. We will keep you updated with the outcomes.

In Rukiga—

Police in Rukiga district are investigating the cause of accident which left one died and another one in critical conditions.

The accident occurred last night at around 2000hrs at Bukinda trading centre in Rukiga District along Kabale Ntungamo road.

Kigezi Regional police Spokesperson Elly Maate identified the deceased is Edson Tweheyo a resident of Kaharo in Kabale district.

Maate said that the accident involved vehicles reg. no. UAL227W Fuso and UAX309E RAV 4 dark blue in color driven by unidentified driver.

The driver of motor vehicle reg. no. UAL227W Fuso Kasozi Abudalah m/a 37yrs old resident of Kyazanga, Lwengo district and the two occupants of RAV 4; the late Edson and another yet to be identified were rushed to Rugarama hospital hospital in a critical condition.

Edson Tweheyo later dead at the hospital while the other two are still admitted.

Scene was visited by DTO Asp Apilla assisted by No. 59125 PC Nyabutono and both vehicles impounded at Muhanga Police Station pending IOV’s inspection and to establish the likely cause of the accident.

In Fort Portal—-

The State Minister for Local Government Victoria Businge Rusoke aka Mama Wabana has warned people against destroying the environment.

The Minister was yesterday together with Richard Rwabunga the district Chairperson visiting residents in Rusenyi B, Kyaibombo among other areas in Rutete Sub County Kabarole district that were hit by hailstorm during the heavy rain on Thursday.

According to Hon. Victoria Rusoke, when people practice deforestation, swamp reclamation among others, it leads to drought, hailstorms.

Her comments come amidst the ever continuing flooding and drought in Ntoroko and Kasese in Rwenzori region.

The district Chairperson Kabarole Richard Rwabuhinga called for massive planting of trees at boundaries of their land. He attributed the increasing hailstorms and drought to environmental destruction.

Mrs. Mutasi Christine the District Female Councilor Rutete and Musinguzi Deo the LCIII said over 300 households were affected hence calling on government to provide food relief.
