KISORO DISTRICT BANS MOVEMENT OF PIGS OVER OUTBREAK OF SWINE FLU

Kisoro district production department has announced a total ban on the Movement of pigs and their meat due to an outbreak of African swine fever in the district.
According to the acting District Production Officer who doubles as the District veterinary officer Herbert Ngabo, the outbreak has been confirmed.
Ngabo said that cases are in Rubuguli town council and Murora, Kanaba, Bukimbiri and Kirundo Sub Counties.
He noted that all tests on living pigs and those that died in Murora and Kanaba sub counties have turned positive.
Over 30 pigs have been confirmed dead of the disease but most People are concealing information making their findings hard.
Ngabo suspected that the disease might have been imported from Rwanda by Pig Farmers in Murora Sub County who could have also made transactions with the people in Kanaba Sub County.
He said that no more selling and buying of pigs and pork in the district until Kisoro is free of the disease.
He urge the public to cooperate with his office by abiding by the order and restrictions issued.
Some of the symptoms of swine flu among pigs are; sudden death, lack of appetite and fever.
Fever spreads in various ways including food, shoes, clothes, motor vehicle tires and pork. He advises people to avoid visitors on their farms.
