In Mbarara—

Police in Rwizi region have arrested one person in connection to the murder of a boda boda cyclist and theft of his motorcycle.

ASP Samson Kasasira the Rwizi police mouthpiece identified the suspect as Libon Ainebyona.

It is alleged that the deceased Anthony Twesigye 22 years a resident of Bwenkoma Cell, Rukindo Ward, Mbarara city south was murdered on 6^th Oct.2021 and his body dumped in the farm near Kihumuro Mbarara University campus.

According to the deceased’s wife, he received a phone call from unknown person, then picked his motorcycle registration number UFJ 164V BAJAJ Boxer and rode away only to be discovered dead with a deep stab wound and a rope tied around his neck and his motorcycle taken away.

The PRO said that Police detectives and SOCO team from Mbarara Central police station swung into action, and took the deceased’s body to Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

In Kazo—-

Nurses and Midwives at Kazo health Centre IV have laid down their tools in demand of their August and September lunch allowances.

A nurse who preferred anonymity told www.mknewslink.com reporter that 31 staff at the facility have not received their lunch allowances amounting to 6 Million UGSH.

The staff are also dissatisfied with lack of enough staff quarters; the available well varnished facilities are given to the senior staff while the juniors sleep in dilapidated building with their families.

Dr. Samuel Kiroha the Kazo District Health Officer (DHO) told www.mknewslink.com that his office has already been notified about the matter and has already informed the Chief Administrative Officer and the District Human Resource Officer who pledged to work on the matter very soon.

Ruth Sabiti Kashaka the RDC who addressed the angry Nurses and midwives pledged to sort out all grievances perturbing them as soon as possible.

It should be noted that each qualified nurse is entitled to shs. 15000 per day and their assistants shs. 10.000 while about 70 billion shs. was budgeted for these annual allowances.

In May, this year, the ministry of health promised that the money would be available in July following numerous threats and strikes by nurses over their allowances.

In Rukungiri—

Teachers have been asked to go for COVID 19 vaccinations as one of the requirement for schools to reopen.

The call was made by Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner RDC Mr Bewayo Nsubuga Stephen during an exclusive interview with our reporter on the current COVID 19 status within the district.

During the weekend, Rukungiri district received 2,492 dozes of modulo COVID 19 vaccines which are meant for people who are taking first jab and 640 AstraZeneca vaccines for people mainly taking the second jab.

Speaking with our reporter, RDC Nsubuga encouraged all teachers in Rukungiri to go for vaccination as soon as possible to pave way for full reopening of the sector.

Nsubuga however cautioned owners of bars operating secretly defying presidential directive, explaining that intelligence is on ground and one time they will be arrested under security operations and charged accordingly.

He added that many people no longer wear face masks, neither observe social distancing nor sanitize though COVID 19 is still around.

1,104 cases have fully recovered, 78 are still active and they are all at home based whereas 23 people died. On Tuesday 63 samples were tested where three turned positive indicating that COVID 19 is still within the district.

In Buliisa—-

Congolese nationals have continued to flock to Uganda in search of better medical services.

The Congolese enter Uganda through Buliisa district which is their neighbor in Bunyoro sub region Western Uganda.

Dr. Nelson Naisye the District Health Officer – DHO Buliisa explains that 30% of the people who get health services in Buliisa are Congolese.

“Out of the population we have in Buliisa, 30% are Congolese who reside in the district while others cross to Uganda for the health services,” he said.

Dr. Naisye says that the Congolese get free health services too, and this has forced many of them to opt getting free health services in Uganda.

“We identify them at the outpatient department when recording their details, most of them are from Eastern DRC,” he added.

The health expert adds that due to the increased population of Congolese seeking for medical services in Uganda, the Ugandan population has been affected too since they compete for medicines.

Mbarara Resident City Commissioner Lt. Col. James Mwesigye has vowed to arrest church leaders and their follower for violating the set COVID 19 SOPs.

Briefing the press at his office in Booma , Col. Mwesigye revealed that it has come to his notice that some church leaders allow more than 200 people in church while others conduct over nights.

He told the press that they will deploy their officers to arrest whoever is acting in disregard of the set guidelines.

In the presidential address on COVID 19 , President Museveni re-opened churches after 3 months of closure, but gave a maximum number of 200 people , under strict COVID 19 Standard Operating Procedures which include hand washing facilities at places of worship, Wearing of facial masks, social distancing among others.

Meanwhile, the Mbarara Referral hospital Dr. Celestine Barigye said that apparently the hospital has 10 COVID 19 patients admitted in the hospital’s COVID 19 isolation unit.
