In Ntungamo—

Police in Ntungamo District are holding a man in connection to the death of two herdsmen.

The suspect has been identified by police as one Tashobya a resident of Kanoni village, Kasenyi parish,Ngoma Sub county

ASP Samson Kasasira told journalists in a press release that on the night of 30th.Dec.2021 at around 0300/c  herdsmen of Charles Murenzi while at farm house sleeping were attacked by unknown people in Rwendahi village , Kayenje Parish , Rweikiniro sub county  ,who set ablaze the grass thatched  house they were sleeping in suffocating them to death.

ASP Kasasira said that one of the herdsmen one Nuwahereza escaped from the assailants and hid until morning when he reported to his boss who reported to police and a case of assault was registered at Rweikiniro police post.

Kasasira further identified the deceased  as Irandukunda Emmanuel a Rwandese aged 22years and a Resident of Kayenje Parish , Rweikiniro sub county and Bagwiza David alias Boy aged 18 years a Resident of the same area.

The police PRO noted that police from Ntungamo visited the scene and it was discovered that herdsmen of Rweikiniro Sub County have been at logger heads with herdsmen of Ngoma Sub County over cattle crossing for pasture

Bodies of the deceased were examined at the scene and handed over to relatives for a decent burial,and community policing conducted in order to prevent further attacks on both parties.

In Kasese—-

A section of leaders in Kasese district have courted parents and guardians to prioritize sending their school going children back
to school when schools reopen in January.

Schools will officially re-open for all classes on January 10, 2022, according to the schools and other institutions calendar that was officially released mid this month by Education and Sports Minister
Janet Museveni.

The new calendar covers all primary, secondary technical and community polytechnics, many of which have been closed for almost two years which saw over 1.5million learners remain redundant within their communities.
Schools in Uganda have remained closed for over 80 weeks, the longest school closure recorded across the world.

However, last week, Ms. Museveni announced that the closure, which started on March 20, 2020, was ending and all learners would report back at once.
Speaking to our reporter shortly after addressing a section of students during a career-guidance day on Wednesday at Kahokya Primary School in Kahokya Sub County, Kasese District Woman MP Florence Kabugho emphasized the need for parents and Guardians to support all their school going Children when schools reopen in January.

Kabugho who also noted that the district is also grappling with a high rate of teenage pregnancies, encouraged parents to endeavor to take the daughters and sons who have become victims of the same back to school

She also strongly warned the parents from marrying of their daughters at a tender age saying that the act exposes the young girls to a number of dangers.

The woman legislator also urged students to become ambitious and pick up role  models who will always inspire them to becoming persons of responsibility in the future.

In Kabale—

Security agencies in Kabale district have cautioned the public against organizing fireworks displays, burning of tyres and holding overnight prayers as they usher in the New Year, 2022.

In the wake of government restrictions to control the spread of COVID-19, bars, which often were licensed to display fireworks, have officially remained closed, and the country is still under a night-time curfew that starts at 7 pm and runs until 5:30 a.m.

On Monday this week, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that with such restrictions in place, every person is expected to be indoors on New Year’s Eve.

Speaking to our reporter ASP, Abel Ruganza the Kabale District Police Commander also has re-echoed that there will be no display of fireworks, burning tyres and overnight prayers among others in Kabale district. He asked leaders not to hold gatherings and overnight prayers.

ASP Ruganza vowed to intensify security and more deployments to ensure that there is no display of fireworks and night gatherings saying that curfew will be enhanced
