Police in Kabale are investigating unclear circumstances under which an 80 year old man committed suicide after a failed attempt to kill his wife,

Edward Nsigirenda, the deceased hanged himself after he allegedly cut his wife Lydia Nduhukire 60 years with a panga accusing her of adultery

According to Kigezi Regional police spokesperson Elly Maate both the deceased and his wife are residents of Rwembogo cell, Muyebe parish, Buhara sub county Kabale district.

It is alleged that the two had a long standing domestic violence resulting from the above allegations, and two years back, he badly assaulted the victim to the extent of being hospitalized.

It’s further alleged that, from the hospital, she went to her son’s home in Kakumiro district fearing for her life.

It’s in the month of December 2021, when the deceased called his son Nampa Dickson requesting the wife to come back home promising to have reformed. The victim came back and they stayed normally.

Maate said that on 09/02/2022, at around 21:00hrs after supper they all slept but in the night she heard the panga falling down from the bed.

Immediately the man picked it up and cut her hand.  She made an alarm that attracted people who rushed her to Buhara health Centre III, leaving the man inside the house.

Thinking that he had killed her, the man hanged himself with a rope inside the bed room after locking the house from inside.

Police were notified and they visited the scene, did aPostmortem done at the site, checked on the admitted victim at the health centre and issued her with police medical forms under Kabale CRB 085/2022
