In Bushenyi—-

The Minister of State Microfinance and Small Enterprises Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune has given emyooga funds defaulters an ultimatum of three days to pay back or they face shame through the media.

The minister made the remarks yesterday while monitoring and evaluating emyooga SACCO groups in Bushenyi district that received money from the government through the micro finance support center and the office of the president.

He noted that shaming defaulters on radios, televisions, newspapers and other media platforms will be one of the ways to recover the funds from defaulters who do not wish the program well.

He added that those who will not heed to the media shame and go on without paying will be arrested to only to be released when they pay.

He directed district and municipal Commercial officers to compile all names and address of the defaulters with their phone numbers and submit to media houses for publication and broadcast.

Meanwhile, Annet Katusiime Mugisha the Bushenyi district woman Member of Parliament has asked the government to revise the guidelines governing emyooga funds as beneficiaries are given limited time to pay off their loans.

In Kabale—

Police in Kabale are investigating circumstances under which a 40 year old man died instantly days after he was hit by his wife with a stick.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional police spokesperson identified the deceased as Richard Ngabirano a resident of Bwahi cell, Kyonyo ward, Katuna town council, Kabale district, who was hit with a stick by Patience Kyabasasaki 37 years, the wife.

It’s alleged that the two have had a long standing domestic misunderstandings and on the 16/02/2022 at around 2100hrs, the deceased went back home drunk and had a fight with the wife.

That, thereafter, she left the deceased in the bed in the morning hours of 17/02/2022 and went for burial of their grandmother.

On returning today the 19/02/2022 at around 0630hrs, she found the husband dead in bed.

She reported the matter at Katuna police station and Kabale CPS was notified accordingly.

Maate said that she personally confessed to police when she went to report herself today morning, that she hit the deceased with a stick on the legs and arms thereby causing them to swell.

Scene was visited and processed, body conveyed to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for postmortem and the said wife arrested to assist in investigations.

The case of Murder has since been registered at Kabale Police station under reference number CRB 108/2022.

In Bushenyi—

Ishaka central market traders are clashing over money that was donated to them by the Senior Presidential Advisor on media and public relations Ms. Mary Karooro Busingye.

The former minister allegedly visited the market last week and supported them with 1.5 M shillings which she handed to one of their colleagues Mariati Nahwera Nkongoro since the chairman was not present.

Karooro advised that the money be shared equally amongst the traders as a way of supporting them. However, traders claim that Mariati promised to share out the money the following day but up to now they have not received anything.

Speaking to www.mknewslink.com  reporter yesterday, Peace Busingye, Faridah Nsimire and Juliet Tusasirwe some of the traders said that when they tried to ask about the money, Nahwera lashed at them with abuses and harsh words which ended into a fight.

Moses Tumuhimbise the Ishaka Central market chairman told www.mknewslink.com  that by the time the money was given out, he was not around but only got the complaints from the traders and when he tried to ask the accused, she became rude and tough.

He thus called upon traders to remain calm and asked Ms. Karooro to come and address the issue because it has brought division among traders.

When contact on the matter, Mariati Nahwera the accused arrogantly told our reporter that she had no time to talk to the media.

In Kanungu—

A 40-year-old man in Kanungu district who on Wednesday went on the run after deliberately cutting to death two children of his neighbor in revenge for his cheating wife has been lynched by an angry mob.

Edward Birungi, a resident of Kagarama village, Nyarutojo parish, Kambuga sub-county cut eight-year-old Tracy Nabasa and Ian Owembabazi, 3, both children to his neighbor Frank Kato.

Birungi while armed with a sharp panga went to Kato’s home and immediately cut the two to death while accusing Kato of having sexual relations with his wife.

Birungi had two weeks ago divorced his wife after attempting to kill her on accusations that she always commits adultery with Kato. Birungi found children at home alone while Kato was in a nearby garden digging.

After the incident, angry locals mobilized a manhunt until today at around 06:30 PM when they landed on him.

Elly Maate, police spokesperson for the Kigezi region confirmed that Birungi was captured from Omunengo valley along Kanungu-Rukungiri road while sneaking out of the bush to run to Rukungiri side.

Maate said that Birungi sneaked out of the bush not knowing that locals were alert and monitoring every area.

He also revealed that Birungi’s body has been taken to Kambuga hospital for postmortem.
