In Kampala—

AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi was on a day like this five years ago murdered at Kulambiro Kampala.

Kaweesi, together with his driver Godfrey Wambewa and bodyguard Kenneth Erau, were shot dead on March 17, 2017, a few metres away from Kaweesi’s home in Kulambiro, Kampala as they went to work.

He was meant to address Uganda Christian University students and the chairs remained empty.

President Museveni while speaking at a vigil said the government was going to buy cameras and fix them allover Kampala which was done.

Other high profile murders include; the murder of Joan Kagezi the principal prosecutor, Major Kiggundu of UPDF, murder of Abiliga MP Arua municipality, murder of Muhammad Kirumira ASP who was a critic to IGP Kale Kayihura’s regime, the recent attempted assassination of Gen. Katumba Wamala which took the life of his daughter Brenda Nantongo Wamala and his bodyguard.

In Fort Portal—

At least five students of Fort Portal secondary school are in critical condition and 30 others admitted with minor injuries after their school bus involved in a nasty accident on Wednesday evening.

According to Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Region Police spokesperson, the bus overturned at Kitarasa along Fort Portal-Bundibugyo road, North Division Fort Portal city as the students were returning from Kichwamba technical college playground where they had gone for a football match.

Twesige noted that five students are in critical condition after they sustained broken limbs and serious head injuries.

“Many others were also injured and admitted in the hospital but they are steadily improving. The driver lost control and the bus overturned. He’s still at large,” Twesige said.

The injured students were rushed to various medical facilities that include Fort Portal Regional Referral hospital, Virika and Kabarole hospitals.

Nurses at Fort Portal hospital said that most of the students sustained injuries in the chest, hands, heads, legs, and face among other body parts adding that they are closely monitoring their condition.

The school head teacher, Mr Regan Katerrega, in a statement said a total of 35 students sustained injuries. He identified three of those in critical condition as Kasiime Asumart (S.3), William Mutalya (S.5) and Grace Kunihira.

One of the students who was in the bus that was hired from St Maria Gorreti Girls SS also in Fort Portal, said the bus had over 30 occupants.

In Bushenyi—

Police in Bushenyi are investigating circumstances under which a teacher at Bishop Ogez High school and St. Mary’s Vocational school Kyamuhunga in Bushenyi district died in an accident.

Johnan Tukahumura 40 years died on spot in an accident which happened on 15th, March 2022 at 08:21PM at Kayembe, Kyamuhunga Bushenyi district.

According to SP Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, the accident involved Toyota Hilux registration number UBE973E and Bajaj boxer number UFC763S.

The deceased Tukahumura a physics and mathematics teacher at both schools was riding the Bajaj boxer.

The body was taken to Comboni hospital in Kyamuhunga for postmortem as police hunt for the driver of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, a woman in Sheema also perished in an accident that happened at Kagango along Bushenyi- Mbarara road in Sheema district on the night of 15th March 2022.

Shallon Tukwasibwe who was a passenger on Bajaj UFG 025X which collided with motor vehicle number UAP198D Toyota Colona Estate died on spot.

SP Tumusiime told www.mknewslink.com that both the motor vehicle and motorcycle are parked at Sheema.

In Bushenyi/ Mbarara–

Police in Mbarara are holding two people arrested in connection to the theft of Isingiro CAO’s Prado vehicle.

SP Martial Tumusiime the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson could not reveal the details of the suspects in order not to jeopardize investigations.

SP Tumusiime revealed that the stolen vehicle Prado TX UAT140J was also recovered and is currently parked at Bushenyi central police station.

He told www.mknewslink.com that the two suspects arrested in Mbarara will be transferred to Bushenyi which is the scene of crime.

He, however could not reveal whether the prime suspects in the matter are the ones Mbarara police have in custody.

CAO Alice Asiimwe’s Prado vehicle was stolen on the night of 15^th March 2022 at around 11:00 PM from their home in Rwandaro cell, Ruharo Bushenyi Ishaka municipality.

The police spokesperson told www.mknewslink.com that the workers of the family; Didas Twesigye from Ibanda district and another one not identified but comes from Rubirizi attacked Mr. Laban Rushure the husband to the CAO, tied him up and took away with his 400,000 shillings plus the vehicle.

Mr. Rushure was discovered in the morning of yesterday 16^th March 2022 breathing profusely and was rescued by neighbors.

In Ntungamo—

Ntungamo district chairperson Sam Muchunguzi has challenged locals to feed their children on milk to kick malnutrition out of the district.

Muchunguzi was on Wednesday speaking at the closure of the district steering committee for the school milk program, which is funded by SNV-Uganda and is implemented by Appropriate Revival Initiative for Strategic Empowerment-ARISE.

The chairperson revealed that the district remains among the districts whose nutrition is not up to the standard, yet it boasts of being country’s food basket.

Muchunguzi urged parents who have access to milk in their homes to always ensure that they spare some for home consumption before rushing to sell, while those who do not have milk in their homes should always spare some money to buy milk for their children.

The project, which focuses on encouraging parents to buy milk for their children, has so far spread to 199 primary schools in the district.

The program has also seen teachers and parents trained on the benefits of milk consumption.

The project coordinator at ARISE, Dorcus Nyabucureera, revealed that the organization has in place initiatives for schools that perform well in the program.

The schools that manage to get milk to 60% of the pupils are rewarded with milk purifiers and modern cooking stoves, among other things.

Nyabucureera added that the program has been able to engage the locals to know why they need to buy milk and what the benefits of milk are.

She noted that the program also supported the schools with hand washing facilities, soap, and other items to enable them meet the Standard Operating Procedures.

Appropriate Revival Initiative for Strategic Empowerment-ARISE was started by the former Ntungamo district woman member of parliament, Beatrice Rwakimari.

In Kabale—

Police in Kabale are investigating circumstances under which a district vehicle knocked dead a police officer.

According to Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesperson, Sgt. Justus Turinawe attached to Cps Kabale was allegedly knocked by a grader reg. no. LG0001_037 from Kabale district local government driven by one Valence Kyarisima.

The accident occurred yesterday at Kabale roundabout when the deceased was riding his pedal cycle.

The victim was rushed to Kabale referral hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Scene was visited by IP Twinobuhamizo Oc traffic, postmortem done, body handed over to relatives and Motor vehicle parked at Kabale CPS pending IOV inspection.

Efforts to arrest the driver of the grader and ascertain the rightful cause of the accident are underway.
