MASINDI DISTRICT COUNCIL DIRECTS CAO TO INVESTIGATE SORRY STATE AT GENERAL HOSPITAL

Leaders in Masindi district have decried the poor state of Masindi district general hospital.
The matters raised during the Monday’s council meeting held at the district chambers included; the hospital operating without water, gross mismanagement of funds, gross negligence of duty by the medical superintendent, who reports on duty drunk, money extortion in the theatre, total collapse of professional standards among others.
According to Kassim Kabagonza the district vice chairperson who also doubles as the leader of government business, service delivery is grossly affected and if the council doesn’t attend to the above issue, they stand to lose the good will of the ministry of health towards construction of a hospital.
‘’I therefore beg this council to direct the Chief Administrative Officer to undertake appropriate measures to avert the deteriorating situation including disciplinary measures on the errant officers as well as conducting special investigations into this with financial mismanagement and all the other service delivery areas,’’ he submitted.
Sylvia Karungi the Secretary for Social Services, Health and Education and Sports told the council that the Masindi hospital medical superintendent doesn’t supervise the junior staff, there is mismanagement of the hospital, gross misconduct, lack of clinical skills, disorganization in the hospital, mismanagement of the hospital funds and others.
She recommended the medical superintendent to be relieved of his duties with immediate effect out of the public outcry, adding that the replacement be sorted from the available medical officers.
Karungi recommended that the medical superintendent should work under close supervision for mentorship and coaching or even further by placing further training.
Cosmas Byaruhanga the Masindi district LCV chairperson stressed the poor state of the hospital and disclosed that it’s operating under unbearable situation citing lack of water, mattresses, bed nets, insecurity yet the hospital is funded.
The politician noted that it’s high time for urgent intervention into the matter.
Byaruhanga told journalists after the council meeting that recently the officials from the ministry of health paid courtesy to Masindi hospital and all findings were negative.
He however said that since they have reported the matter to council, the council has directed the chief administrative officer to take measures and investigate saying all is done to ensure there is improved service delivery at the hospital.
