Mbarara Resident City Commissioner Lt. Col. James Mwesigye wants the government to remove from the civil servants list, the two Mbarara city officers who were interdicted following allegations of soliciting bribes from Mbarara Central Market Vendors.

Mwesigye made the remark yesterday, (Wednesday) as the minister of local government Rapheal Magyezi met Mbarara city Leaders at Adit mall in Mbarara city to discuss issues surrounding the delayed opening of Mbarara Central Market.

Mwesigye challenged the government to lay off the principal commercial Officer James Agaba and his assistant Donati Mutaahi on grounds that they have been involved in several corruption cases.

The two were in April interdicted by minister Magyezi following allegations of soliciting bribes from Mbarara Central Market Vendors promising them stalls in the redeveloped market.

However, Minister Magyezi showed dissatisfaction with the allocation Committee which was put in place to allocate stalls to the traders citing that they did not live to the task as some of them awarded stalls to their relatives who were never vendors in the previous market.

Magyezi again tasked the office of Mbarara Resident City Commissioner and the office of the city Mayor to start with reallocation of 462 vendors who were shifted to Independence Park before handling other vendors who joined later.

In his submission, Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi the Mbarara City Mayor expressed his concern over the bill of 7 million shillings drafted by UMEME at the redeveloped market before the market opens.

In Rubanda—-

A 27-year-old man in Rubanda district is still missing after he was buried alive in a stone quarry on Wednesday afternoon along Hamuhambo-Muko road.

The deceased has been identified as Dan Muhereza, a resident of Murambo II village, Kitojo ward Bubaare town council.

Muhereza met his demise on Wednesday afternoon at around 04:00 PM while quarrying stones in Haruhasha village, Bushuura ward, Hamuhambo town council.

Aggrey Bandebaho, the Hamuhambo town council LC3 Chairman says that while Muhereza was busy quarrying stones, the soils mixed with hard cores caved in covering him completely.

Bandebaho says that the stone quarry belongs to Obed Natukunda a businessman in Hamuhambo trading centre. He says that the victim was working in casual labor.

According to Bandebaho, the victim’s two children who were also at the same quarry managed to run away and survived unhurt. He also says that hopes of finding Muhereza alive are almost nil due to heavy stones and soils covering him.

He also says that locals’ efforts to use hoes and spades to retrieve the body failed, which forced him to alert district authorities for help

He attributes the problem to heavy rains the area has received over the last three days, making the soils very loose.

Charles Bernard Buturooha and Wilson Mugisha, uncles to the deceased say that the victim had spent more than a year quarrying stones in the same quarry for survival.

They now want authorities to suspend operations of the quarry since it is a threat to lives. They also say that despite such a tragedy, it is difficult for locals to quit stone quarrying because it is a viable source of livelihood.

By 7:00 Pm police and locals gave up on using spades and hoes to remove the hard cores and soil from the quarry. District authorities also failed to get an excavator and only managed to improvise with a wheel loader.

By press time, the wheel loader was still at work trying to remove the soils and hardcore to find the victim.

In December 2018, Victor Twinomujuni, a resident of Rwarubaya cell in Muko sub county, Rubanda district died after a sand quarry located in Mubwindi -Kagoye cell, in Muko Sub County, caved in.

In Isingiro—

The territorial Police in Isingiro District have launched investigations to establish how a UPDF Soldier RA267422 private James Omeri Kamarendi attached to 29 battalion shot and killed a colleague RA237613 Private Laurence Bwire.

The suspect has been an escort to Kitooha Cell Chairperson one Generous in Kahenda parish, Birere Subcounty, Isingiro District.

ASP Samson Kasasira the Rwizi police mouthpiece intimated to www.mknewslink.com reporter, that preliminary investigations indicate that the two UPDF Officers had a protracted misunderstanding over a woman who was serving as a maid for the chairperson Local Council one Kitooha Cell.

This allegedly sparked off the fight resulting into shoot out where one of them died on spot.

Kasasira added that the body of the deceased was taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital for a postmortem.

He further said that the two rifles and cartilages were recovered and exhibited as the hunt for the suspect who is still at Large takes course.

A charged mob in Rubanda District has cut off male genitals of their fellow accusing him of adultery.

The victim has been identified as Lazio  Tugumisirize aged 48 years and a resident of Mukirwa cell, Nyamabale Parish, ikumba Sub county Rubanda District.

It’s alleged that on the night of Tuesday 31, Tugumisirize Lazio fell in love with one Vanis, a wife to Sunday who is laboring in Kampala.

According to the eyewitness, the in-laws made an alarm at around 9pm after seeing Lazio conniving with Vanis in their brother’s house.

This attracted the charged mob armed with spears, pangs and logs beating him heavily before cutting off his male genitals.

Fearing for her life, Vanis escaped to her ancestral home in Kakyamuhoro cell the neighboring village.

The chairperson LCI Leodinus Banyenzakyi described Tugumisirize as a senior Rapist and a man who has been terrorizing the village and to some extent, he has been buying alcohol for women before luring them into matters of sex.

He added that Lazio never made any statement at the police and up to now he is still insisting that he was attacked by unknown thugs on his way to home not in the Adultery.

He revealed that this is the first time to have such an incident in his village adding that this should act as a lesson to all the women and men in the village.

He called upon Men to involve themselves in productive activities rather than Adultery.

By the time our reporter filed this story, police had not yet reached the scene for a comment.
