In Bushenyi—

Bushenyi district council passed a resolution to block the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development /BIRDIC budget despite an earlier invitation by company for sensitization about its projects and future activities.

The scheduled meeting was on 31^st May 2022 but the resolution by councilors was passed 27^th May 2022.

The ambassador of BIRDC/ PIBID Henry continued with the mobilization of the meeting and it took place on 31^st May 2022 but was attended by only 5 councilors; Winfred Mbyemire, Rev. Lauben Mugarura, Baker Owomugisha, Speaker Douglas Mucunguzi and Fish Banyanga plus the Chairman Jaffari Bassajabalaba.

Despite the resolution that was diversionary, PIBID waited for councilors to attend the meeting but only the above turned up.

In an interview with www.mknewslink.com , the chairman who was not in the council meeting said that Councillors have a point but they should have come for the meeting to iron out all the differences with PIBID other than boycotting.

Despite the boycott by some councilors, the executive director elaborated very well the vision and mission of the company BIRDC / PIBID and the closed meeting ended very late in the evening.

A mini meeting took place at the factory and was attended by district chairman, speaker, executive director and very few others.

In Sheema—-

Youths in Sheema have been warned against sleeping with their relatives for material gains.

Solomon Ndyamuhaki the director Reach a Teenager Western Uganda said the vice has become common among both girls and boys which is very shameful.

Ndyamuhaki was on Saturday speaking to pupils of Blue Site primary School in Bugongi Sheema district during the Community visit.

He revealed that the shameful act does not stop with relatives but some youths sleep with sugar mummies and daddies for cheap gifts and this has exposed them to early pregnancies, marriages and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

Daphine Ayebare a counselor at Reach Teenager Western Uganda advised the pupils at Blue site primary school to always ensure proper hygiene and speak to their trusted elders in case teachers, relatives try to lure them into sexual acts.

Zipora the municipal education officer Sheema municipality challenged teachers to be friendly with their pupils so that they are able to report to them the sexual and reproductive related issues they face daily.

As a way of ending menstruation stigma, Reach a Teenager Western Uganda provided the girl children at the school with 150 pads and taught them on how to make and use reusable pads.

Reach A teenager Western Uganda is a community based organization that operates in Bushenyi town at Mpairwe house and it deals with youths related issues; such as sexual assault.
