MONEY LENDER DRAGS FORMER DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER TO COURT OVER UGX 500 M DEBT

A money lender based in Kira Municipality has dragged Henry Muganwa Kajura the former deputy prime minister to Masindi High Court over a debt of 500 million shillings.
According to Sali Abdul, during the 2016 campaigns for the general election, Muganwa the then 1st deputy prime minister and minister for public services mortgaged land title of his land measuring 50 acres located in Kitoba Village Kitoba Sub County Bugahya county Hoima district to get a loan of 500 million shillings.
In a civil suit filed at Masindi High Court in 2018, Sali wants Muganwa to be evicted from the land with his entire family since he has failed to pay the money since 2016.
Appearing before Masindi high court for mention of the matter on Monday, Regina Kajura the wife of Kajura Muganwa who represented the former 1st deputy prime minister with their lawyers asked court to allow them transfer the powers of attorney from Kajura to the wife on health grounds and grant them two weeks to file their defense.
The Masindi High Court Resident Judge Jessy Byaruhanga granted the defendant three months leave to file all the necessary documents and adjourned the case up to 28th September for hearing.
