MOB LYNCHES MOTOR VEHICLE THIEF IN MBARARA, COLLEAGUE INVOLVED IN NASTY ACCIDENT

A vehicle thief has today been killed by mob in Mbarara while his colleague is nursing injuries following an accident during police chase.
The duo identified as Issa Matovu and Joseph Mukiibi was intercepted along the Mbarara Northern bypass in Mbarara City as they headed to greater Masaka.
Rwizi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Samson Kasasira told journalists that the two allegedly stole a truck registration number UAX 260G from Ngarama, in Nyarushanje Sub County in Rukungiri District at the home of Byamugisha Deus who quickly reported to Police.
Kasasira narrated that through Police intelligence and CCTV cameras the motor vehicle was tracked down right from Rukungiri and later intercepted in Mbarara City.
The Police PRO added that during the pursuit of the assailants by Police, their lead car UAR 611R Toyota Townace got involved in an accident injuring the occupants; Issa Matovu who is currently admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and his colleague Joseph Mukiibi who is the deceased now.
Kasasira explained that Mukiibi Joseph was attacked by a mob who responded to gun shots and was beaten to unconscious although the Police rescued him to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital where he died from.
The two are alleged to be part of a big racket of thugs who steal motor vehicles and move them across borders including the motor vehicle UAZ 095Q that was recovered from Tanzania recently.
The other motor vehicles still missing include registration numbers UBF 835X Isuzu Forward white in colour stolen on the 29th May 2022 from Bushenyi, UAY 122Q Forward white in colour stolen on the 5th November 2019 stolen from Mbarara City, UBF 995C Forward stolen on the 18th April 2022 from Rukungiri district and UAX 997W Fuso white in colour stolen from Mbarara district on the 19th May 2022.
