FORT PORTAL CITY COUNCILLOR STRUGGLING WITH HIP OSTEOARTHRITIS.
Nimusiima Evarline,
FORT PORTAL.
The Fort portal tourism city councillor representing the people of Kijanju ward is currently struggling with a hip Osteoarthritis.
Ategeka Bernad, says trouble for him started in 2016 when he started developing pain along the groin.
Though he visited the doctors, the doctors couldn’t find anything until he was advised to do a digital x-ray, MRI, scan and CT scans which indicated that he had stage three Osteoarthritis on his right hip.
Ategeka explains that he started medication and physiotherapy but nothing was coming to his relief.
He was later advised by the doctors to instead go for an implant on his right hip since they hoped for his other hip to get infected if the left one was not worked on.
As he was preparing to go for an operation, COVID-19 struck and was followed by the lockdowns, this left troubled Ategeka with no option but to only depend on pain killers.
By the time the lockdowns came to an end, all his hips were now infected and the doctors advised him to do an immediate surgery so that the artificial implants can be given to him.
Dr. Gilbert Ategeka from Fort portal regional referral hospital describes osteoarthritis as the most common form of arthritis that occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones wears down over time.
According to him, although osteoarthritis can damage any joint, the disorder most commonly affects joints in the hands, knees, hips and spine.
Dr Gilbert explains that Osteoarthritis symptoms often develop slowly and worsen over time, according to him, the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis include, the affected joints might hurt during or after movement, joint stiffness awakening or after being inactive.
With Older age, Obesity, Repeated stress on the joint and Bone deformities being the most causes associated with the condition.
Bernad now wants 63 million shillings so that he can undergo the surgery.
