VALLEY UNIVERSITY AWARDS ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION WINNERS WITH BURSARIES

Over 60 secondary school students have been awarded bursaries at Valley University of Science and Technology following their participation in the 1st Annual Essay Writing Competition.
www.mknewslink.com has learnt that the University ran the competition in different secondary schools across the five districts of Bushenyi, Kasese, Mitooma, Sheema and Rubirizi.
According to Andrew Agaba the University Marketing Officer, the major aim of the competition was to revive the writing culture and improve critical thinking in order to produce self-reliant citizens.
“As a rural based leading University, one of our goals is to transform society. This can only be done by offering quality practical and affordable education. Writing is an art which really needs critical thinking. We thank participants and congratulate the winners. This is going to be an annual competition and we intend to have it cover the whole country next year,” Agaba noted.
This year’s competition was under the topic; ‘Technology has changed man’s mode of life in the world. To what extent has technological innovation in Agriculture helped to increase food security in Africa?’
The overall winner was Patience Asiimire from Kibingo girls Secondary School Sheema District. At district level, winners were Beutya John from St. Micheal High School Rubirizi, Gift Katusiime from Kibingo girls Secondary School Sheema, Silver Lutaya from Bwera Secondary School Kasese, Chrisent Nkamwesiga from Ruyonza School Bushenyi and Albert Arinaitwe from Ijumo Progressive Secondary School Mitooma.
Valley University has picked pace in a very short time which society attributes to the quality and effective teaching, good management, standard facilities and adhering to MoES guidelines and regulations.
The University is currently admitting primary and secondary school teachers who wish to join the December intake, in-service program. Admission for the January/February Intake is also ongoing.
