Masindi Chief Magistrate’s court yesterday remanded Hosea Kiiza, the embattled Headteacher of St. Kizito Primary School in Muuro Village, Bwijanga Sub County Masindi district, to Masindi Prisons until 8th of November 2022 over aggravated defilement.
The 54-year-old head teacher was arrested last Sunday and detained at Masindi Police Station after police received multiple accusations from parents, pinning him of defiling and impregnating pupils at the same school.
Hosea who had spent 5 days behind-bars at Masindi-Central-Police station was yesterday fronted to Masindi Chief Magistrate Kosiya Kasibayo who read him charges of aggravated defilement before remanding him.
Hosea was however not allowed to defend himself as the magistrate explained to him that the level of the court was not mandated to hear his case which is a capital offense and that the state prosecutor was not present in court.
Speaking to www.mknewslink.com reporter shortly after court, some of the complainants asked court to handle the case objectively such that they can get justice for their children.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday this-week, our reporter reached out to Legal experts at Legal Aid Clinic in Masindi-town to ascertain the lawful penalty for this case.
Council Keneth Muyambi one of the Legal Aid advocates explained that according to the penal code act, in-case anyone is proved guilty of aggravated defilement, he is liable to a death sentence.
The legal expert further explained that court can reduce the punishment to 35 years in prison in-case there are mitigation factors like the offender being mentally ill or incase he committed the offense under the influence of alcohol among others
