Police in Kabale District have arrested two sub county officials for embezzling government funds.

Ivan Mugahwenkyi the Rubaya Sub County Chief and his treasurer Wilber Tumwesigye were on Friday 11th November 2022 arrested from Ndorwa West Constituency Kabale District for embezzling government funds.

The two are accused for spending over 18M on ghost roads, failure to account for over 28m part of the money meant for the renovation of the administration blocks of the three sub counties, spending 11m on the 2km Kabirango _Kishaze Road,

The operation to have the two arrested was led by the Kabale district RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma, Deputy RDC Ronald Bakaki and the Diso Lauben Mutabazi.

However, their arrest comes after the office of the RDC received information alleging that over 650m meant to rehabilitate the two roads Nyinamoronzi_ Rushaki_ Mushenyi road and Nyakibanda _Nyarutoma _Rwaza road in Kibuuga Sub County were not properly utilized well.

It’s alleged that 18,795,906 shs was spent on Ghost road. Named as Musamba _Buboona _Murungu since the financial year 2021/2022, 9,600,000 spent on a 1km Mushonga-Mukibindi-Habugarama road, 11m spent on only 2km or less than on Kabirago-Kishaze road,

The government of Uganda through the Ministry of works and Transport sent Shs. 300M to construct Rubaya, Kahungye and Kibuga Sub County Headquarters but unfortunately, only 526,503,630 was used, 15m used for Operation cost and 28,496,370 is still missing and Unaccounted for.

By the time our reporter filed out this story, the Kabale District CAO had got annoyed, and transferred the Rubaya Sub county Chief Mr Mugahwwnkyi Ivan to his office for close monitoring and was replaced by the CDO With Immediate effect in a letter which was dated 11/11/2022.

Hoima city council has today passed a resolution halting Buliisa district or any other part of Bunyoro from seceding from Bunyoro kitara kingdom.
The motion was moved by Hon. Sylvia Balyesiima Nalumaga the leader of government business hoima city council seconded by Hon.Achilis Kiiza the secretary for health.

Brian Kaboyo the mayor for Hoima city revealed that the issue of Buliisa breaking off from Bunyoro kitara kingdom is the interest of a few people who have their personal interests to make them bigger than Bunyoro yet Bunyoro has existed before those bringing such ideas.

Kaboyo said they have lived in harmony with the Bagungus without any problem so those who are saying they are being sidelined it’s not true that’s why they have decided to come out as a city to say NO and stay united as one Bunyoro.

Edward Isingoma the speaker of Hoima city council exposed that as council they have pronounced themselves condemning the whole act of Buliisa or any part of Bunyoro from splitting from Bunyoro kitara kingdom reason being if one of them breaks away it would mean they have set a precedence for other entities to break away from the kingdom.

Isingoma said the unity of Bunyoro kitara is the strength of Bunyoro in terms of bargaining for services thus adding that if there are issues that members of Buliisa are finding uncomfortable with but these are issues that can be discussed as members of one family.

He stressed that in addition to the Bunyoro kitara council that thinks and plans for the future of the kingdom, as city council they are also a cooperate body and their mandate comes from that cooperate body because they are elected by the people so they speak on their behalf.

During the same council meeting, the council also gave Hoima city authority two weeks’ ultimatum to advertise the vacant positions at the city publicly since it has been overdue so that people are called for interviews thus to feel the work load gap at the city.

Come November 2022, Butuuro Financial Services(BFS), will be marking fifteen years of existence and service having registered as a financial institution in November 2007.

In this respect, a myriad of activities shall be conducted in what BFS has dubbed Butuuro week (8th-15th) November as a way of celebrating progressive impact the institution has enjoyed with her clients.

Under the theme, Community service by prioritizing Environmental Conservation/protection, the celebrations will be majorly characterized by a green campaign in which each member that visits BFS branch or outreach will be given a tree for planting in their homes. Environmentally friendly tree species have been selected for this cause according to the management.

During the week of celebrations, trees will be planted in selected public spaces like schools, worship centers, etc. The institution will also donate scholastic materials to needy learners in selected government primary and secondary schools.

It is worth noting that Environmental Protection will take center stage in this year’s celebrations to mark 15 years of BFS.

The institution has previously supplemented environmental protection efforts by offering eco-friendly products like solar energy and biogas with support from SNV and Uganda Energy Credit Capitalization Company.

At present, BFS has solar products, but they go at normal interest rates without a subsidy.

The move by BFS is to support and challenge other financial institutions to lay the foundation for a more sustainable future. This effort aligns resources with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that aim to shift the economy to clean energy, eliminate hunger, foster gender equality and achieve more than a dozen other social and environmental targets.

Under the aspect of gender equality, BFS is mooting plans to subsidize Agri Business loans for the female gender at a lower interest rate of 1.7% compared to males who borrow at 1.9% for any amount ranging from Shs. 100,000 to Shs. 150,000,000.

BFS’ affirmative action arises from the funding offered by aBi who want women to be given priority in financial inclusion.
