BOU HANDS OVER 400M “MUTEBILE” MATERNITY WARD TO KABALE DISTRICT AUTHORITIES

Bank of Uganda yesterday 02/12/2022 handed over 400 million shillings Mutebile Maternity block at Rubaya Health Centre IV, in Lyakarimira town council, to Kabale District Authorities after its completion, which it constructed to promote maternal and child health care.
The block was named after “Mutebile Block” in the honor and memory of the late Governor of the Bank of Uganda Prof Emmanuel Mutebile who started this initiative of rehabilitating and constructing structures at different Health facilities in the Country as part of Bank of Uganda’s corporate social responsibility.
The block comprises several medical equipment including 15 patient beds, 15 mattresses, ultrasound scan machine, patient stretcher, patient monitor, oxygen concentrator, implant removal set, hand washing facilities, and face shields among others. The Medical officer at Rubaya Health Center IV, Dr Denis Masiko said that since June to November this year they delivered 356 mothers, and 208 of them delivered normally, while 76 women on cesarean section and they on a monthly basis delivers an average of 76 mothers.
The Kabale District Health Officer Dr Gilbert Arineitwe Mateeka said that the facility comes as a relief because the facility has been overwhelmed by patients since it serves over 600 monthly, and lacked enough structures and equipment.
Speaking during the official handover of the structure at the facility grounds, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Dr Michael Atingi-Eg said that the late Mutebile’s initiative of constructing structures at health facilities, started in 2016 and they have already reached out nine districts in the country with the intention to reduce maternal and infant mortality death. Dr Atingi-Eg asked the married couples to embrace family planning because high population will cause financial crises in the Country.
The State Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives David Bahati who was also the Ndorwa West Member of Parliament commended Bank of Uganda for establishing the structure at Rubaya H/C IV and naming it the Late Mutebile adding that he will be remembered for championing improving Health sector in the Country. He further reminded the people to always go to the respective health facilities for medical check-ups because prevention is better than cure.
