Police in Kisoro district are investigating circumstances under which a ministry of defense motor vehicle knocked dead an 8-year-old Juvenile at the Kisoro – Kabale highway

Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson identified the deceased as William Matovu male aged 08 years resident of Mukarango village in Kanaba sub county Kisoro district.

Maate said that the motor vehicle registration number UG 0227D Toyota Land cruiser, army green in color which belongs to the under Secretary Ministry of defense James Mutabazi was driven by Emmanuel Habimana of Kamwanyi Portbell Nakawa division Kampala,

Maate says that on 02/01/2023 at around 09:40am in the morning at Mukarango village while the motor vehicle was from Kisoro side heading to Kabale, it met the victim crossing the road at a short distance and collided with the deceased

ASP Maate narrated that as the victim was being rushed to Mutolere hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly.

The scene was visited by Asp Kushaba Michael DTO and team, a sketch plan was drawn and a postmortem was done

Driver was issued with a police form for the
inspector of the motor vehicle while investigations are still ongoing

KAZO DISTRICT

Leaders and residents of Buremba town council are accusing George Ruyondo the Head of Laity at Kyabahura Church of Uganda in Kazo district for allegedly grabbing 4 acres of Sub-county land.

Ruyondo served as the chairperson LCIII for the then Buremba sub county for 17 years before being ousted by Nicholas Murisa who was later replaced by James Matagaizi, now mayor of this town council.

These leaders and residents accuse Ruyondo of using his position to mislead other leaders to grab this land in 1995 by getting the title of more than 4 acres and yet he was given only one plot of land by the sub county lands committee.

Joseph Ndibalema, the then sub county chairperson lands committee, said that they were called to confirm the land which they couldn’t recall adding that it is likely that the chairperson LC III used his position in a way they didn’t understand and he got much more land that he wasn’t allocated.

When contacted ,Ruyondo revealed that he followed correct procedures to get the land title adding that whoever feels discontented should go to court rather than tarnishing his name.

The Kazo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Al-Hajji Umar Mawiya Lule directed Ruyondo to immediately stop the ongoing clearing of the land in question before the district and Sub county intervene.

The over 4 acres of land that was claimed borders Buremba town and is near the road that joins Bigutsyo and Kabingo.

Theft

BULIISA:

The fishing communities in Buliisa district have decried the increased theft of fishing gear on Lake Albert.
This was disclosed by the fishermen during an evaluation meeting for Ngacia and Angara fishing Association at Kamagongolo landing site in Butiaba sub county, Buliisa District recently.
The meeting attracted area members of Parliament from Buliisa district , leaders of Ngacia and Angara Fishing Association and other fishermen from different landing sites of Hoima, Kikuube, Kagadi, Ntoroko, Pakwach and Buliisa District, District Fisheries Officer from Kagadi District.
It was organized by Uganda Fisheries and Fish Conservation Association {UFFCA}.
Afusa Tibananuka, Abibu Businge among other leaders of Ngacia and Angara Associations revealed that the continuous theft of the fishing gear on the lake has impoverished them and left some of their colleagues dead.
Edmon Ava from Panyimur landing site in Pakwatch district however accused fellow fishermen especially those who fish at night of cutting and stealing their gear.
Daniel Murungi from Runga landing site accused some fishermen’s leaders of shielding the culprits and he challenged the leaders to be transparent and honest in their work.
Allan Atugonza, the Buliisa county legislator called for serious intervention on issues affecting the fishermen on lake Albert in order to save their lives and fishing gear.

RUBANDA DISTRICT

The Rubanda District Woman MP Hon Akampurira Mbabazi Prossy has shown concern on the high rate of family violence and break ups cases in the district.

Hon Akampurira Mbabazi Prossy who is a Commissioner of Parliament revealed this at the end of a 5 day charismatic conference held at Kakore catholic parish in Hamurwa town council Rubanda District.

The Commissioner of Parliament showed concern about how some men are buying pieces of land without engaging their wives in the land agreements. Akampurira said that some men in the district fear working together with their wives a thing that has affected developments in some of the families

She gave a case in point where a man who had bought a land without involving his wife and the family members died instantly leaving the land to the mafias.

She called for cooperation and unity among married couples for the stability of families

She further showed concern about the high rate of family breakups in the district saying that some of the parents fight in the broad daylight in the presence of their children.

The commissioner also revealed plans of meeting women in every village about increasing household income.

 She further urged the public to participate in government programs aimed at alleviating poverty such as the parish development model

She has supported the construction at the parish with 100 bags of cement and 200kgs of Rice for the youths conference scheduled to take place on 26 -29 this month in the district

Rev Fr Innocent young Buregeya who was Presiding over the charismatic conference at Kakore parish applauded the Commissioner of Parliament upon her tremendous support rendered not only in the district but also at the diocese.
