The office of Rukungiri resident district commissioner has halted the operations of 7 money-lending companies in Rukungiri town for not having the requisite documents
Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom the Rukungiri deputy Resident district commissioner who led the operation named some of the affected money lending services as Hobro financial services , Motivate financial services, Ituli establishments, Uguka financial services, Hard cash microfinance limited, Royal Orient financial services company limited, Kedcof services limited among others.
Some of these companies were found with operating licenses from other districts like Bushenyi, Mityana and Lira districts yet they were operating in Rukungiri, while others had expired Licenses

Ongom says he was forced to visit these companies to verify their documents saying most of them didn’t have operational permits from the Municipality, certificates from Uganda microfinance regulatory Authority UMRA and Tax identification numbers from Uganda revenue authority among other documents required.

The office of the Residents district commissioner conducted this operation together with the Rukungiri Municipality officials and Uganda revenue authority officials who said some of these companies have been dodging taxes

Edith Tusuubira, the Executive Director of Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority recently revealed that the Authority plans to carry out nationwide sensitization programs to create public awareness of the regulatory requirements for money lending this year.

Police in Hoima District are investigating circumstances under which a 21-year-old lady was burnt into ashes in her grass thatched house.
The incident happened in wee hours of Sunday morning in Kibengeya village Kibengeyaparish Kapapi sub county Kigorobya County in Hoima District.
Charity Alinaitwe, a mother of two and a resident of the same area was torched while sleeping in her grass thatched house.
According to a resident who preferred anonymity, the deceased got misunderstanding with the former husband who is believed to be the father of his children while in a disco dance in Buraza village on Saturday night which later brought scuffle.
The scuffle came after the former husband blamed the ex-wife for being with another man.
It’s alleged that the deceased has been receiving death threats from the former husband thus suspecting him to be behind the incident.
The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza confirmed the incident and said investigations have commenced.
By press time, the Kigorobya police was at the scene, and later handed the body to the relatives for burial arrangements.

RUBANDA DISTRICT

Police in Rubanda District are investigating circumstances under which 91 people fell sick after eating food at a burial.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Region police spokesperson said that on 6/01/2023 at around 03:00pm about 91 people fell sick at the burial at the home of late Katuro Samuel in Kitahurira cell Kashasha parish in Nkumba Sub County in Rubanda District.

Maate revealed that the Cause of the illness was unknown but there was suspicion that they had been poisoned.

A medical report follwing their hospitalization is that the patients were infected with a bacteria probably got from poorly prepared food but not poison.

Police together with the health team responded and conveyed the victims to various health centres in Muko, Kitahurira, lkumba and Kyiizi where they got first Aid and had improved and were being discharged while Investigation was ongoing.

The case of suspected poisoning was registered at Rubanda Central Police station under reference number GEF: 001/2023.
