DIABETES HITS BUBAARE TOWN COUNCIL IN RUBANDA

Over 300 people in bubaare town council Rubanda district have tested positive for diabetes in a of period less than 6months.
Speaking during a one-day health training today at bubaare town council headquarters in Rubanda district.
Mrs. Juliet Kabagabe the incharge bubaare HCIII said that they are carrying out an assessment of the seriousness of the disease, the mechanisms available to handle the growing number of patients.
Enock Kyankunziire the Rubanda district health Educator said that there is a new thrust of non-communicable diseases in the district and among these is diabetes and hepatitis B and that people should know and always go for medical checkup when it is still early to avoid complications.
Barnabas Tiwangye the A/DHO Rubanda district agreed that the main reason for the increase in numbers was changing lifestyles.
He added that people in the area have put on a lot of weight, as they do not do exercise and that they take a lot of milk and animal products thus become fatter especially at the age of 40.
And that parts of their bodies, especially legs and feet become big.
The number of members of the Uganda Diabetic Association, currently is 20,000, has doubled since 2001.
