The Kabale Municipality Mayor Mr. Byamugisha Emmanuel Sentaro has warned President Museveni not to dare step in Kabale come 2026 if Kabale district fails to get a tourism city status.

He revealed this while addressing the journalists in Kabale town recently.

Byamugisha, said that the parliament passed a resolution of Kabale getting a city status and this should be fulfilled saying that they receive money to renovate the roads according to the population one has.

He further vowed to deal with any Member of Parliament who will be opposing the city status.

“You members of parliament, I want to assure you that the residents want the city and you should not dare tampering with the parliament resolution” Sentaro vowed.

In Masindi

Locals in Masindi district are still in a shock after the district senior lands management officer Mr. James Mugoya dies after collapsing during the district Technical Planning Committee –TPC meeting.

According to sources at the district headquarters, Mugoya, 51, and who had been battling high blood pressure collapsed while being roasted over a yet to be known issue during the meeting held at the district council chambers on Wednesday.

The district communications officer Brian Atuhura told www.mknewslink reporter that Mugoya was later rushed to Supreme Medical Centre in Masindi town for treatment from where he was referred to Mulago national referral hospital where he died Thursday night.

Mknewslink.com has learnt that Mugoya was diagnosed with blood clots in the brain and the doctors were still trying to stabilize him so that they could carry out operate on him.

The body is still lying at Mulago hospital mortuary at the moment, and arrangements to transport the body to Sironko district for burial are on.

The late had served Masindi district for more than 20 years at the time of his death.

Over 138,000 refugees are said to have fled to Uganda from the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan since early 2022.
Among them, 98,000 fled from Eastern DR Congo while the rest fled from South Sudan.

Polyn Abina, the Western region refugee desk officer under Office of the Prime Minister, revealed this today during a meeting with a delegation of European Union ambassadors at Nyakabade refugee transit center.

Polyn also revealed that the transit center in Nyakabande is overwhelmed with refugees who are in processes of being transferred to settlements.

She noted that the transit currently holds over 900 individuals instead of 700, which brings in a challenge of shortage of resources.

The Deputy Director of program operations at Save the Children, Peruth Natumanya says that over 1497 children have also fled fighting in North Kivu province since last year.

She says that the children are forced to escape from Nyakabande holding center and at times Nakivale settlement camp due to lack of conducive services like accommodation and enough food.

Meanwhile, refugees at the transit expressed poor feeding concerns saying that they only feed on posh and beans.

Speaking to journalists, The UNHCR country representative in Uganda, Matthew Crentsil said that partners have always stressed resources to ensure that refugees feed on a balanced diet.

He noted that the refugee influx makes planning for them difficult.

Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 26-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed with a panga by a bar owner.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson identified the deceased as Elias Twesigye a resident of Kajumera cell Katonya parish Nyakishenyi sub county Rukungiri district.

The deceased was allegedly stabbed with a panga by Augustine Turyahebwa Alias Turyatunga 20 years of Rwangura cell Katonya parish Nyakishenyi sub county Rukungiri district.

Maate said that on 22/02/2023, at about 11:00pm in Omukarere trading center Nyakishenyi, the decease together with his friend Julius Mukene entered into the bar of the accused possessing panga’s while were from work.

After entering the bar, they ordered for a glass of waragi and the bar owner told them that he wasn’t going to serve them more waragi unless they handed over the panga’s to him which they did.

Maate said that later, when they asked for their panga’s to leave, the bar owner refused to give them back.

Julius Mukene himself left the bar meanwhile the deceased remained in the bar demanding for his panga.

ASP Maate narrated that at around midnight, Byamukama Bosco the biological father of Augustine Turyahebwa while in bed heard a big bang on his door and a voice of his son Augustine calling him and told him that he had just killed Twesigye the son of Kareho in his own bar at Omukarere trading center.

Police of Nyakishenyi was notified by Jackline Twebaze, scene was visited and examined.

Postmortem done and suspect arrested while Inquiries underway.
