Police in Rubirizi are investigating circumstances under which a 31-year-old man was murdered in bar brawl.

The deceased has been identified by police as Rashid Mandella a resident of Munyonyi II village, Munyonyi parish, Katanda sub county, Rubirizi district.

According to Martial Tumusiime the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, the deceased on 15th March 2023 while in a bar at omukavacado trading center had a quarrel with one Julius Ngabirano over wealth.

While making a call outside the bar at 8:00pm same day, the deceased was attacked by the suspect with a panga leaving his intestines hanging.

Tumusiime told our reporter that the deceased was rushed to Kyamuhunga hospital where he was pronounced dead on 16th March 2023.

The police PRO said that they have already arrested Ngabirano and he has confessed to have committed the crime.

In Kisoro

The ministry of health has directed the Kisoro Municipal town clerk, Haruna Kamba to interdict Habumugisha Hosea from his duties as a municipal driver due to his recent involvement in smuggling Bitenge.

Habumugisha who is still on the run was intercepted on 26th February in Kabale municipality driving the Kisoro Municipality Surveillance pick-up donated by the Ministry of Health Bitenge allegedly smuggled from the DRC.

Speaking to our reporter in his office yesterday, the Kisoro municipal town clerk Haruna Kamba said that the ministry of health’s directive of taking such a disciplinary action against Habumugisha could mean that investigations into the matter are being finalized.

Kamba noted that the ministry also directed him to make a formal report about the vehicle, an assignment he has already completed.

He however decried the fact that responsible authorities dealing with investigations have not yet shared any report of their findings.

According to Kamba, Habumugisha has been on several occasions accused by municipal councilors for misusing the vehicle, no evidence had been gathered to ascertain their claims until he was intercepted in Kabale.

He said that he will soon constitute a committee to internally investigate more about the incident, where he will be required to defend himself.

He added that the findings by the committee may lead to his permanent dismissal from his job if found to be involved in such gross misconduct.

Meanwhile, Haruna Kamba says that the municipality’s service delivery has crippled since their only vehicle was impounded. He earlier today travelled to Kampala to engage URA so that the vehicle can be released.

Members of Igara grower’s tea factory are worried that they might lose their factory if the board doesn’t reconcile and work together.

The company which is owned by farmers from both Igara and Buhweju is divided right from their board of directors

Members attribute the divisions in the company to politics and a weak vetting committee.

Tarsis Kabwegyere the former minister who is a member of Igara grower’s tea factory told journalists yesterday after an AGM that the meeting was an opener that all is not well within the company.

He warned the company board of directors led by their chairman Samuel Muhumuza to put their differences aside, work for the betterment of Igara grower’s tea factory keeping in mind that the company they are dividing is a source of livelihood to many.

Nicholas Ajuna Kajurembe another member of the factory noted that like any other business, the factory must be run with unity and cooperation thus called upon the chairman board Samuel Muhumuza to be a unifying factor and put his house(factory) in order.

He added that these disagreements have been there ever since the current chairman took over and they have tried as members to bring them together but all in vain.

However, Mitooma district chairman Benon Karyeija warned members against all these wrangles adding that they should focus on working hard to outcompete the incoming competitors instead of battling among themselves.

It should be remembered that the chairman board of directors was recently rejected by members of Buhweju during one of their zonal meetings accusing him of dictating to hold an annual General meeting in Bitereko zone instead of their own Buhweju.

They had earlier run to court to challenge the proposal but the court ruled in favor of the board of directors allowing the meeting to take place today in Bitereko zone.
