Police in Kisoro is investigating circumstances under which the head teacher at River Jordan Primary School in Nyakinama Sub County allegedly trafficked and defiled a 15-year-old pupil of another Primary School in Kisoro Municipality.
Investigations reveal that 27-year-old Emmanuel Uwimana (captor) and 15-year-old minor (victim) shared an ordeal that lasted one week.
While appearing before Kisoro Chief Magistrate, Kenneth Komakech, prosecution said the 27-year-old Head Teacher, on the 23rd of March 2023 aided the minor to escape from her School in Kisoro Municipality and took her to his premises for sole purpose of having Sexual relations.
Prosecution further states that after several days of not seeing the minor in School, the School authorities decided to report the matter to Kisoro Police.
On 30th of March 2023, a whole week and some days of going missing, the alleged suspect was apprehended and the minor rescued.
Emmanuel Uwimana now faces two counts of Defilement and Child trafficking, charges he denied while appearing before the Chief Magistrate yesterday.
Close sources have reliably informed our reporter that the minor has since been transferred from her school where she was slated to complete her Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
It is further alleged that Uwimana only spent two nights of that Mysterious week with the minor raising more questions as to what really happened.
Chief Magistrate Kenneth Komakech remanded the suspect until the 26th of April 2022 when he will re-appear for plea.
Steven Bahati, father to the victim and resident of Gahiza village, Buhozi parish in Busanza Sub-County requested for the severest of punishments towards the suspect once investigations into the matter have been concluded.
Kisoro remains a hotspot for defilement and early marriage.
Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs who doubles as the Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi says mindset change will require participation from all stakeholders involved especially if the bad vice of defilement is to come to an end in the district.
