The State Minister for Economic Monitoring, Ms Beatrice Akello Akori has directed the arrest of former Kabale Municipality Human Resource Officer Beddah Mugyendesa and the accountant in charge of salaries Mr Gideon Ahebwomugisha for allegedly causing financial loss to the government by inflating the number of civil servants.
The directive was made on Thursday during the minister’s monitoring mission in Kabale municipality.
The directives came after the Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma reported to the minister that security led by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating the alleged inflation of civil servants to access the government payroll by Mugyendesa and Ahebwomugisha.
Our Reporter was reliably informed that Mugyendesa and Ahebwomugisha also reportedly enrolled some non-science teachers to illegally access the payroll of science teachers to share with them the salary.
RDC Nyakahuma said that investigations are still ongoing to ascertain how many ghost civil servants illegally accessed the government payroll.
The Kabale municipal town clerk Justine Barekye told our reporter that about 28 ghost civil servants have been discovered as they continue to thoroughly ascertain the number of ghost workers which prompted the minister to order Mr Nyakahuma to ensure that Mugyendesagye and Ahebwomugisha are arrested to answer charges of causing a financial loss to the government.
Our reporter’s effort to get Mugyendesagye’s comment on the matter was futile because his known phone number could not go through whereas Ahebwomugisha said that he is not answerable to any ghost workers who illegally accessed the payroll claiming that he only pays the list that has been approved by the Human Resource
