Police in Kisoro district are currently holding a 31-year-old man in custody on allegations of killing his own child. The tragic incident unfolded after the man’s wife informed him that the child was not biologically his.

Elias Kabeni, 31, residing in Matyazo village, Rukongi parish, Nyarusiiza subcounty in Kisoro district, is suspected of taking the life of his 5-year-old son, Junior Aloysius. The fatal confrontation occurred following a disagreement between Kabeni and his wife regarding the child’s biological father. Learning that the child was not his, Kabeni allegedly made the devastating choice to end the child’s life.

According to ASP Elly Maate, Kigezi Region’s police spokesperson, the incident took place on August 29, 2023, around 8:00 pm. Kabeni visited his mother, Nyirasheriburyo Jovia, aged 65, who resides in Nyarusiiza subcounty. He intended to retrieve a key to his home, which he typically kept at his mother’s place.

Tragically, during his short journey back home with his son, Kabeni reportedly took the life of his child by cutting the child’s throat. He then fled the scene but later turned himself in at Kisoro Police Station. The local police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Following the incident, Kisoro CPS opened a case and the scene was visited by OC station Kisoro SP Asiimwe Pious and his team. The young victim’s body was taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem examination, while a pair of trousers worn by the suspect and containing blood stains was recovered as evidence.

The tragic case of murder by cutting has been registered at Kisoro central police station under the reference number SD 54/29/08/2023.

The authorities continue to investigate the heartbreaking incident to uncover further details surrounding the events leading up to the child’s untimely death.

Four Committee members of Itaara parish PDM sacco in Rubaya sub county spent a night at Bwizibwera Central Police Station on allegations of extorting money from Parish Development Model(PDM) beneficiaries.

The suspects include;Asaph Beingana the SACCO chairperson,Adrine Kyokusiima the treasurer , Valerian Twesigye and Caleb Karuhanga both committee members.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday evening on orders of Emmy Katera Turyabagyenyi the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mbarara.

RDC Turyabagyenyi said the suspects were detained on charges of forgery and extortion.

He said the suspect’s arrest followed several complaints raised by PDM beneficiaries from Itaara parish PDM Sacco that their leaders forged their business plans.

Turyabagyenyi further revealed that a section of SACCO beneficiaries were given less money compared to what they had requested for.

Mbarara district has a total of 46 registered PDM SACCOs that have so far received Shs 31 million out of Shs 468mln released to the district. Each parish in Uganda is expected to receive Shs 100mln each year as a revolving fund.

The PDM, which was launched in February 2022, to move 38% households still in subsistence to the money economy, proposes building infrastructure and systems that support the processing and marketing of Uganda’s agricultural products.
