KIGEZI POLICE HUNT FOR STRANGER FOR CAUSING DEATH OF VEHICLE OWNER

The Kanungu district police are actively hunting for an individual who unlawfully operated a vehicle, resulting in the tragic death of its rightful owner, Tumuhimbise Beston Kabirinda.
The incident occurred on the 12th of September 2023, at approximately 9 p.m., near Kembeho along the Kanungu-Rukungiri Road in Kanungu District.
According to ASP Elly Mate, the Kigezi Region Spokesperson, the driver of motor vehicle Registration Number UAV 314H, a Harrier, had been traveling from Kampala en route to Kambuga in Kanungu District.
However, he made a stop at Kembeho, left the vehicle idling, and stepped out to inspect something behind the car.
During this momentary absence, a passenger who had been seated in the front seat seized the opportunity to move to the driver’s seat. Startlingly, the passenger reversed the vehicle, inadvertently colliding with the original driver, who was standing at the rear, examining the contents of the vehicle’s trunk. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn, while the unidentified person responsible for this reckless act fled the scene.
Tragically, the victim suffered severe injuries and was promptly transported to Kambuga Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his accident-related injuries around 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
The local authorities were swiftly informed, and the scene was attended to by Sgt. Ndyanabo Willy, with the assistance of PC Kifunte Samuel.
The motor vehicle with Registration Number UAV 314H was towed to Kambuga Police Station’s yard, pending an inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
ASP Elly Mate has disclosed to the media that inquiries are underway, and the case has been officially registered at Kanungu under TAR 29/2023. These steps are vital in aiding the ongoing investigation into this tragic incident.
