Senior four candidates across the Kigezi region in southwestern Uganda have received a crucial piece of advice: steer clear of any involvement in examination malpractice.
A total of 364,421 students have been registered to sit for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams, which are scheduled to commence on Friday, October 13, 2023, following the briefing of UCE candidates.
counsel Atweibembere Wilbrod Rwamunahe, an aspiring Chairperson of LCV Kabale District, delivered a stern message aimed at candidates who have been deceived by unscrupulous teachers claiming to have access to the final exam papers. Such deceit often results in students failing their exams.
Rwamunahe voiced his concerns during a live broadcast on Voice of Kigezi (VOK 89.5FM) in Kabale Municipality, as part of the Ruhondeza Program hosted by Dancan Salongo and Kevin. The program’s focus was the pervasive issue of cheating in exams at all educational levels in Uganda.
Wilbroad Rwamunahe cautioned students against being misled by anyone claiming to possess examination papers. He emphasized that these papers are securely held by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB). he urged teachers to abstain from any form of irregularities, as such actions could lead students to question the validity of their exams, potentially resulting in exam cancellations for the entire school.
Rwamunahe also urged schools, both private and government institutions, to prioritize completing the syllabus rather than resorting to cheating. He underscored the dire consequences of purchasing leaked exam papers, emphasizing that UNEB takes such transgressions very seriously. He implored headteachers and teachers to set an example for students by promoting a culture of academic integrity.
According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), the Executive Director, Dan Odongo, had announced in the previous month that this year’s national examinations would commence on Friday, October 13, 2023, starting with the briefing of UCE candidates. The first exam paper scheduled is geography, set for October 16, 2023. The UCE Examination is slated to continue until November 17, 2023. Following this, the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) will be held from November 7th to 9th, 2023, with the candidates’ briefing. The final set of examinations, the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), will be conducted from November 10, 2023, through December 1, 2023.
