The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, implored Christians to nurture mutual understanding within their families for the betterment of the church.
Bishop Akanjuna delivered this message during the induction service of Ven. Benon Byaruhanga at St. John’s Kamuganguzi COU archdeaconry in Katuna Town Council, Kabale district.
He voiced concerns about the lack of mutual understanding in many families, which creates a rift among family members and poses a threat to the church’s future.
Additionally, he noted that children are growing up without essential moral values, which could jeopardize the well-being of the next generation.
Furthermore, he urged leaders to embrace humility and specifically requested Ven. Benon Byaruhanga to do the same to foster a harmonious working relationship with the Christians of Kamuganguzi.
During the same service, Rev. Canon Milton Nkurunungi, the Diocesan secretary, reminded leaders about the limitations of their respective roles. He encouraged them to seek guidance when facing challenges and challenged leaders with a skewed perception of leadership.
He emphasized that leadership is a divine calling meant for service rather than self-indulgence, referencing 1 Corinthians 1:26.
He also stressed that leadership is seasonal, and those called to serve must remember the purpose of their calling.
Rev. Canon Nkurunungi addressed church leaders engaged in corruption and other forms of immorality, urging them to abandon such behaviors as their role is to spread the word of God, not engage in nefarious acts.
He also encouraged Christians to collaborate with their archdeacon and other church leaders to promote the growth and development of the church.
In his speech, Ven. Benon Byaruhanga expressed gratitude to the Christians of Kamuganguzi and called for their support, promising to work diligently towards the church’s development.
