KANUNGU POLICE ARREST MAN FOR DEFILING TWO PUPILS

Police in Kanungu are currently holding Alex Byamukama, a 24-year-old on allegations of defiling two young girls, aged 10 and 11, who are both pupils at Bihomborwa Primary School
Both victims and suspect are the residents of Bihomborwa village, Bihomborwa parish, Kihihi town council, Kanungu district.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, informed journalists today that on October 15, 2023, around 1:00 pm, the two victims, along with four other girls, ventured into the bush to gather firewood. Upon their return, the suspect confronted them, accusing them of damaging Jane’s bean plants.
Maate explained that the suspect separated the two young victims from the older girls and ordered them to accompany him as a punishment to collect grass. Once in the bush, he allegedly restrained the victims and sexually assaulted each of them.
Following the incident, the victims managed to escape and promptly reported the matter to their parent Jacenta Nyiransaba. She in return reported the case to the police, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect.
Statements have been collected from the victims, and investigations are underway.
The case of aggravated defilement has been officially registered at Kanungu District police station under the reference number CRB 333/2023.
