MASINDI RETURNS 6.2 BN TO TREASURY

Masindi district local government has retuned 6.2 billion to the permanent sec for the financial year 2023/ 24.
This was revealed by out going chief administrative Phiona Sanyu during hand over ceremony organised at the district headquarter chambers.
Sanyu while delivering her speech revealed that Masindi district has been in position to return 6.2 billion where she cited the cause on delayed procurement and irregularities in procurement process.
She cited some of the projects where money was not utilized well and retuned back as 1.6 billion for Kijunjubwa seed secondary school under E-gift , 946 million for St Andrea Kaawa Secondary school in Labongo sub county, 526.6 million for Kinumi seeds school in Mirya sub county.
Other’s include 174.3 million shillings for St Paul’s Pakanyi seed sec school, 126 gratuity and 2.6 billion for staff salaries which was attributed to ban on recruitment non functionality of distinct service commission.
Commenting on the matter, Cosmas Byaruhanga the district chairperson termed the return of money as unfortunate for the population of Masindi district local government.
Byaruhanga adds that in future such incidences shouldn’t happen any more saying they should not be in position to take irregularities made by district council where they came out to stop the services of service commission.
Byaruhanga further adds that district is looking at recovering the money by approaching ministry of public service to make sure that the money is retuned so that they can be in position to appoint and replace those who died and transferred services.
Tapi Namulondo the incoming CAO hailed the out going CAO Phiona Sanyu for work well done during her 3 years spell at Masindi district local government.
Namulondo however told the meeting that she is not coming with a lot of expertise but to add on what her predecessor did.
She asked for team work, support and coordination for better service delivery.
Phiona Sanyu is transferred to Bushenyi district and been replaced by Tapi Namulondo from Kamuli.
