Bishop Lambert Bainomugisha of Mbarara on Saturday advised the newly ordained priests to serve humbly and not to assume authority or dominance in the communities where they will be stationed.
Bishop Bainomugisha was presiding over the memorial ordination of 15 new priests, 17 Deacons in a ceremony at Our lady of perpetual help Nyamitanga cathedral in Mbarara city, where he also assigned the newly ordained priests to their respective duties.
It’s important to highlight that this was a unique ordination ceremony in 75 years of the Mbarara Archdiocese, where 15 deacons were ordained as priests and 17 seminarians were ordained as deacons.
Archbishop Bainomugisha encouraged the newly ordained priests to go forth, spread the word of God, perform sacraments, and embody a Godly life in the communities where they have been assigned.
The prelate also expressed his gratitude to the Christians for their role in nurturing the newly ordained priests, making their ordination possible.
The newly ordained priests have been assigned to various locations, including Rev. Fr. Aventino Arinaitwe to Lugazi Parish, Rev. Fr. Ronald Atwijukire to Ibanda Parish, Rev. Fr. Moses Atugumya to Kihani Parish, Rev. Fr. Alex Baguma to Kyoga Parish, Rev. Fr. David Bakashaba to Kazo Parish, Rev. Fr. Gilbert Bikorwaruhanga to Rwekobwa Centre, Rev. Fr. Nicholas Mubangizi to Birunduma Parish, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Mucunguzi to Kitabi Parish, Rev. Fr. Trust Ambrose to Buhimba Parish, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Turyamureba to Rwera Parish, Rev. Fr. David Tibingana to Uganda Martyrs Parish, Rev. Fr. Collins Kananura on a mission to Ethiopia, and Rev. Fr. Everisto Rukundo on a mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In his remarks, the Cabinet Minister for Trade and Cooperatives, Francis Mwebesa, congratulated the diocese on the significant milestone of ordaining 15 priests and 17 deacons. He advised the newly ordained priests to serve the people rather than assume the role of leaders.
Francis Mwijukye, the Member of Parliament for Buhweju County, stated that the priests have a responsibility to live as Archbishop Bainomugisha does, emphasizing his humility as an example to follow.
