A 52-year-old woman, Efrance Kobusingye from Nyaruhanda cell, Kikondo ward, Kitagwenda district, has given birth to quintuplets—three girls and two boys—after a 32-year battle with infertility. Kobusingye, who is married to 62-year-old retired secondary school teacher Tunanukye Clesensio, delivered the babies by Cesarean section at Neo Care Clinic in Booma, Mbarara City, on Tuesday night, just seven months into her pregnancy.
The quintuplets were immediately transferred to the intensive care unit at Holly Innocent’s Children’s Hospital in Mbarara for specialized care.
Speaking to the media, Clesensio shared that he and his wife married in 1992 and had been trying to conceive for decades, visiting multiple health facilities across Ibanda, Fort Portal, and Kampala. It wasn’t until last year, when they sought help from Neo Care Fertility Clinic in Mbarara City, that Kobusingye was diagnosed with fibroids, a condition that had impacted her fertility. After treatment, she miraculously conceived.
Despite their joy, the journey has been financially draining. Tunanukye revealed that they had sold all their property in pursuit of a child, spending around 30 million Ugandan shillings on fertility treatments. Now, with their newborns in critical care, he expressed concern about the looming hospital bills and appealed to well-wishers for financial support.
Kobusingye, who relies on agriculture for her livelihood, expressed her immense gratitude, stating that she had lost hope at times but thanked God for answering her prayers. She also spoke of the stigma she faced from family members due to her inability to conceive, which made the birth of her quintuplets all the more miraculous.
Well-wishers can reach out to the family through Tunanukye’s mobile number: 0782507820.
