Police in Rubanda District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a businessman whose body was discovered in Nyarurambi Ward, Rubanda Town Council.

The deceased, identified as 43-year-old Turyakira Erias, a businessman dealing in Irish potatoes, was a resident of Kamusegu Cell in Nyarurambi Ward, Rubanda Town Council.

According to police reports, Erias left home for work on the morning of Tuesday, October 15, 2024, but did not return that evening.

On Wednesday morning, at around 7:15 a.m., a young man known only as Kyoku, while going to use the latrine at the home of the deceased’s brother, Gerivazi Byamugisha, found Erias’s body lying face-up.

Kyoku immediately informed Byamugisha, who then alerted neighbours and local authorities.

Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed the incident, noting that although police were informed and responded promptly, the scene had already been disturbed by numerous people.

The police inspected and documented the scene, obtained statements from the initial reporter, the deceased’s relatives and other witnesses  transported the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Maate called upon the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation, urging anyone with relevant clues to come forward so that those responsible can be held accountable.
