Three family members in Kakooge village, Kigaaya West ward in Buhimba town council, Kikuube district have been arrested for threatening to kill their relatives over unresolved land and money lending conflicts.
The trio was arrested on the orders of the Kikuube Resident District Commissioner Amlan Tumusiime who had convened a village meeting in Kakooge, Buhimba town council to resolve standing conflicts between two families over land conflict and money lending issues.
Those arrested are Joseph Kasoma, Robert Kanago and their father Felix Nyabongo.
Their arrest followed reports from residents who accused the suspects of threatening to harm those that they were conflicting with overland.
William Kaahwa, the Chairman of Kakooge village says that several people have been victims of the Nyabongo family who they accused of grabbing people’s land and forging cases against the residents.
The overwhelming complaints from the residents forced Tumusiime, who directed police to arrest the accused over threatening to kill people and creating tension in the village.
He says that the district has for several times attempted to settle the conflicts between the residents and the family of Nyabongo but the efforts have been frustrated by the accused.
The Kikuube district chairperson Peter Banura says that as leaders they could not wait to witness bloodshed and they decided to intervene to save the locals from the violent family.
